tomcat_
Hi all, I have posted in the official forums, got a bit of help...but I couldn't find anything in detail... Here is the situation..and hopefully you can understand me... I'm trying to learn and play this game...got the GOTY around summer..and never played it properly... Lately, got lots of mods...lots of g sitting on my hard drive...but still cannot see the whole potential of the game... Here is what I want to do: I wanna start playing coop missions and CTI...and make OFP look a bit better graphics wise (dxdll). I want to introduce OFP to the other members of my team which if I confused them as much as I'm confused with all the downloads and the mods and all that...they will get put off for sure... Because of the learning curve of this game...all the members when they answer is like you know what they are talking about...but i don't... So: 1. How can I set up an OFP server (win xp) on my dedicated server? 2. I need something that will improve the graphics. Is dxdll the tool and what settings? 3. I want to start playing some coop with a couple of members learning the game. Any suggestions on missions and any simple/nice mods i will need? Basically, imagine that you want to introduce OFP to a friend of yours...but keep it simple at the beginning... thanks
Goettschwan
Graphicswise i could maybe help a bit: Dxdll works fine, if you have got a nvidia card 56.72 is the last driver to work correctly with the water reflection feature (frame rate dropping to about 2fps on my computer with later drivers) I turned of the postprocessing option though, i don't think it looks that good. Then there is the hisky pack which replaces the skies with some better looking images, you can get it at http://ofp.kege.cjb.net I also installed the Sanctuary Animation pack which makes the character animations somewhat nicer. Otherwise there are addons which look much nicer than the originals, but they need to be implemented into the respective mission. As for multiplayer, i'll leave that to the Pros present as i have never played MP.
2nd Ranger
1. Depending on what mods you have, you could try downloading some co-op missions from the various sites. However, it's sometimes a bother finding missions that are compatible with your addons, so my best advice there would be to learn the ins and outs of the editor, and make your own missions. That way you can keep them simple (single objectives, etc) so you can practise tactics, etc. As for which addons to get, if you want to start off with a few of the best, I'd recommend the following; HYK US Infantry pack: Modern US infantry units - 3rd ID, 82nd AB, Army SF, 1993 Rangers. COMBAT! Addons (Specifically the HMMWV, Bradley and M113 packs). Any addons required for use will be listed. CrowmanUK
A good mod to try out that would make things easy is the FDF (Finnish Defence Forces) mod, it adds lots of vehicles and stuff and has a good selection of coop missions in it.
