30+Linus 0
We're building a new dedicated GR server that we just started renting from managed.com. We get an exception error (see log below) every time we launch GR or the dedicated server - GR shortcut. The system was installed by default with a "standard VGA adapter" driver from Windows 2003. Although dxdiag indicates the adaptor supports directX 8 or better, I think the card may be the problem. I located the latest VIA 4 in 1 driver set from vyan.com by locating the system board model and referenced that with what the site says should be a S3 Pro Savage DDR Integrated Graphics card but I'm only reasonably sure this is the latest and correct driver and not completely the GR exception error is video. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. IKEcrash log (all but file checksums) GHOSTR~2 caused an Access Violation in module GHOSTR~2.EXE at 001b:0051c320. Dannik 43
Display Tab 1: No problems found. Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.    ← By default, hardware and DirectX acceleration is turned almost, if not completely off, under the default Win2k3 settings. Here's how to fix that. This might not be the only issue your server is having, but I'd bet my beer fund on this being the most likely solution. That entire article should probably be bookmarked, as Win2k3 isn't exactly the friendliest OS to serve Ghost Recon from, out of the box.

GreyHaired 0
If you're in doubt about the version/make of the hardware, you can download the free util "Everest Home" from http://www.lavalys.com. The program also links to driver updates. It's strange your dxdiag says "Display memory n/a" even when it's onboard, the memeory should be shown. Is it activated in the bios? WhiteKnight77 1
Update the Via 4in1 chipset drivers too. They are 1 1/2 years old.
ARDelta 0
@GH, that's a good question, but unfortunately we can't access the BIOS over our remote desktop connection. @WK, done. Thanks, gents. We're gonna try to get tech support from our hosting company involved to solve this problem. @Linus, can you post a current dxdiag? I don't have remote desktop capability from work. 30+Linus 0
Thanks in advance for all the responses and suggestions thus far! We really appreciate the help. We cannot access advanced properties within this graphics card such as hardware acceleration even with the 4 in 1 and VIA Unichrome (KM400) drivers in place. The best clue was probably dxdiag not being able to recognise much of anything on the integrated video. Fortunately, Managed.com technical support has flown right past the cruddy onboard video and agreed to add a separate video card! I think this is our best approach after spending last evening applying and reapplying countless VIA drivers. They can provide a Fx5200, 128MB video card. Does anyone know of any GR issues with the 5200 series? I bought one of these about a year ago and returned it for a 5700 ultra but that was more for lack of performance improvement than having any issues with the game. Any experiences with this card would be appreciated. We are about to commit to the upgrade but I want to be sure there are no gotchas 30+Linus
WhiteKnight77 1
For a server, I see no reason that it would have problems. It should be able to handle server duties with umph to spare as IIRC it still meets DX9 specs (even if barely does). GR ran on my GF2 MX400 card till I got a decent card and the 5200 is more than a step up.

One note is by default the sound on server 2003 is also off. Some drivers will turn it on but it is one thing to check. I think (been a while) the Gr server also required sound to come up. For the server also i would get reconlog so you can log /ban problem makers and save replays if you match where any member with the pass can download them.
