Zeko
What do u think about it? Anyone here making any maps? I think it would be cool to have some smaller maps in range of 1-2 km just for MP Team vs Team fun like in GR only a bit bigger.
CrowmanUK
Theres been a map released on http://ofp.gamezone.cz called midship typedemo island, its only about 100m square but it should work in vbs, lots of cover, bit like a scaled down creekbed. hotshot
I tried it in OFP, and it just froze OFP up. I know it says you gotta lower view distance and get weather at a certain type, and i did that but still didn't work (or it just takes for ever to load). In ReadMe: Transporting the InfantryRange and associated files to VBS is pro- hibited ! I guess for personal use no one would care, but i think a new one would have to be made to be used in multiplayer on servers where lots of people would use it. EDIT: While we're on the subject of OFP-VBS maps, has anyone tried the new version of CAT Afghanistan by Agent Smith (in OFP or VBS)? I think its great, and would be good to convert to VBS if AS (as i dont think CAT is still around) doesn't mind. CrowmanUK
I got it working no problem but you need to put this in the init line of your unit "setviewdistance 140" then bang the fog up to about 3/4 of the scale, then it loads in fine, I forgot about that a couple of times and it just locks up till it crashes, I got it running in VBS too and it looks great, just big enough for some 3 on 3, maybe 5 on 5 but I wouldnt have thought any bigger. The updated Afghanistan map is superb, I'm pretty sure we've got that running in VBS too but I'll have to check, I read on the BI forums that agent smith is updating it and including all the textures in the pbo so if you want it for VBS it might be worth waiting for that update. Heres the quote from Agent Smith Now, the plan is following: - there will be an update to my basic version (BIS textures), featuring some new objects added here and there + modified desert foliage by fighter. The file sie will remain ~40MB (<20MB zipped) to keep small download size in case you only want to use this as objects pack for your custom islands. - there will be additional .pbo containg island as above, but with all the custom textures. Expected additional .pbo size is around 40-60MB. I hope you all will be satisfied. I also hope people will start making quality missions for this island. CTI conversion would be nice, too. and heres the link to the BI forums http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikon...=4;t=45269;st=
Zeko
I got it running too but my problem was framerate! I got 1-3 frames on that map. Dunno why.
CrowmanUK
Try setting the viewdistance to 100 mate and putting the fog higher, there is a whole heap of stuff on the island so I think thats why it slows down, mine always judders for the first 5 seconds or so then it calms down and the frames are about 20ish, I put 5 AI on and as they die you can see the framerate increase, which is odd cos on some parts of the map it runs ok with everybody on, and in others it gives about 2fps. dekela
dont know if smaller maps are needed, simply include triggers as zones to limit the AO. should work fine cheers......
CrowmanUK
From what I've read of it mate it the way its been done it lets you put shedloads of scenery on, I'm no mapper and dont quite understand what the hell he's talking about but you might Overview : The island shows the properties of a terrain resolution at 1,5m cell size (instead of 50m). This is useful for CQB theatres where detailed terrain is demanded. For comparison, the demo uses intentionally the most basic OFP objects and textures. The island extends over 10000 squaremeters at 4096 cells. And heres the pic
hotshot
The smaller cells just let you make the terrain increase and decrease in shorter individuals (e.g. every 1m instead of 10m - not sure on exact measurements) so you can add ditches and such. I think.
