Check out the ability to swim across a river and take out sentries:

Also there is something to be said for the thump of the Hummer when they run those guys over in the 3rd clip.

OMG, welcome to last week

n00b!

sorry, thought this was a different message board.

:P

Really looking forward to single player missions. As for multiplayer I hope there will finally be online co-op and more host options.

I will say Single player also because I own a $90 doorstop called a PS2 HDD. 3 maps are not the ton of DL material Zipper's President promised. That combined with the lag/glitchfest that SOCOM II tends to be and I'll stick with the SP.

It is regrettable because when SOCOM II runs relatively lag free and people are not glitching, it tends to offer some of the best gaming online for Teams.

Sadly though, Zipper and Sony have done a lackluster job in preventing much of the glitching. To this day I have a nice 5 MB video of the Enowapi Shoot People Through the Mountain Glitch. I offered it to Sony Support personnel and they were not interested. And the glitch was never fixed.

Cool videos. Though it was funny to see the terrorists with a Navy SOC-R.

I like the sound of long SP missions and that part where the HUMMV was in the sandstorm, looked pretty good.

No different than SOCOM II where the tangos had Barretts and Desert Eagles. I have seen allot of bad guy guns in my career...not a single Barrett, DE, or hardly anything else that didn't begin with the letters AK or RP. And a note for the Low Res comment crowd. There are plenty of titles that look good...and their gameplay blows. Yes it is good to have it all. But if I have to make a choice I'll take the gameplay. And SOCOM when you actually run it - it supports 480p - looks good for a PS2 title. If that is the extent of your offering in this thread, here is the door. :nono:

When you're actually playing the game, unless you get right up in someone's face, you can't even tell that the graphics aren't hyper realistic.  Frankly, I'd rather have a gritty look then a clean cut one like Far Cry's.

Exactly. Anyone that has a PS2 and has gamed SOCOM I or II (not just looked at web screens - woops, that is obviously less than half the posters in this thread) realize that the game looks surprisingly good and nothing like GR2 on the PS2. But as I said, that would be people that know first hand what they are talking about.

Even though the game isn't spectacularly realistic, it's challenging and fun at the same time. I play the first mission in SOCOM II all the time, it's so much fun to see how far you can get without being seen. I was excited when I found out that you could kick doors open, then move in on the tangos. Plus, there's nothing more satisfying then having your team succesfully do anything, because you told them to personally.

Yes, I agree. Realism isn't this game's seller. I won't get into the general lack of realism on any title. Not enough time. But the game when not lagging offers some remarkable team play, especially as a SEAL on Breach maps.

And the mobility - jump, run, and fall to your death on just about any piece of terrain is standard setting to say the least. Also the ability to use a butt stroke and knife attack for sentry kills is practically unique.

The Zipper choice to make sniping a challenge is poorly implemented, but otherwise the mission layout is well done.

And as I said, winning Enowapi as a SEAL amounts to humiliation for the tangos. It especially angers opponents when you have someone that can put the 40mm grenades against the wall ramp in the basement and take out the M3 shotgunners just around the corner.

I find this interesting...

60% of new recruits to the real life SEALs were inspired to join because of the SOCOM games for PS2. Source

Don't know if it's true.

By recruits I think the article means 60% of guys that enter BUD/S, they're not yet SEALs. Still, seems like a big number.

One of the best examples of that, is Deus Ex, and amazing game but people wont play it now because it looks outdated. :(

With out having played the game, and only having glanced at the screenies, I can only comment on the graphics. But I think that the market now days needs to really have a strong graphics base in its games before people will even consider getting imersed in its gameplay.

Another thing that was great was the grenade arc line. I love that so much, as you can accurately toss grenades through windows and doors. Nothing is more frustrating then lobbing a grenade at a window and having it bounce back in your face.

:) Here's a funny change of events...

I have been browsing this thread for a few days, but with little serious interest because I don't (well didn't) own a PS2.

I just received a PS2 from my brother-in-law the other day. Should I go out and grab Socom Navy Seals II?

Also, HatchetForce's site link was just updated with over 10 minutes of high resolution game footage.

Socom II is dirt cheap now, saw a copy yesterday for $14.

Might aswell scoop it up.

Just don't buy a HDD, unless you want a expensive paperweight, doorstop, or a loved one needs a bit of added weight for their purse/bag and a brick just won't do.
