Doom: Collectors Edition & using the mouse

Recommended Posts

Doom: Collectors Edition is Ultimate Doom, Doom 2 and Final Doom bundled together... Ok, so the graphics are way dated, but it's awesome fun and very addictive.

Anyway, I can't seem to set up the mouse to work with Doom: CE. When you go click on the shortcut to either of them, you are presented with a setup box thing (where you can set resolution etc). These setup boxes are quite a common thing with some more modern games. Now, in the setup box thingy I can set up the controls too. But I can't see an option there for the mouse. So I can't enable mouselook and the like. This is actually quite annoying....due to this I have to have the movement keys mapped like this:

W - Forward

S - Backwards

A - Sidestep Left

D - Sidestep Right

Now this is of course the basic movement config for all modern games. But as I can't use mouselook cuz I can't find the option for it, I have to then do this:

Left Arrow - Turn Left

Right Arrow - Turn Right

IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CIRCLE-STRAFE with the config the way I set it up. Circle-strafing is the key to staying alive in Doom: Collectors Edition.

On my old rig, I had a demo of Doom, and IIRC, the mouse worked fine with that. So does anyone know if I can use the mouse for playing Doom: Collectors Edition?

On a side note, I found out how to take screenies in Doom: Collectors Edition. I'll post up some screenies later.... I'm actually working on a mod for Doom 3 at this moment in time, I was thinking, how about if I remade Ultimate Doom, Doom 2 and Final Doom with the Doom 3 graphics? (no name for the mod yet, but how about Doom: Flashback?. Now, I need to get back to my killing spree with the double barrel sawed-off shotgun in Doom 2....

You can't mouselook with just Doom. There are a bunch of source mods that allow this, though. Try Zdoom, it's very popular. My favoriate is the one that allows 3d models for everything, but I can't quite recall it's name. Anyway, they all allow higher res, and mouselook, while keeping the classic feel of Doom.
