Upcoming shooters:

Recommended Posts

First is a redo Delta Force 1 called Delta Force: Reloaded with the new engine (used in Joint Ops?). It will have all the original missions from the 1998 game as well as some new ones. I for one will enjoy the hell out of revisiting these old levels because nostalgia in old games is so often killed by the dated graphics when your eyes are used to much better. I actually got a headache last year when I tried DF1, so I'm looking forward to this.

The next could be a real genre-killer. Boiling Point: Road to Hell, an 'RPG-shooter' (think Morrowind with guns) set in modern day Colombia. My guess is you play some kind of mercenary and move from job to job along some kind of quest arc (details are patchy). It may be a game where you can go anywhere, do anything and eventually choose which faction to work for. The screens are amazing and certainly capture the feel of many an 80's straight-to-VCR movie set in some Latin American drug or civil war.

Also not a shooter but the successor to Morrowin, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion looks set to turn the single player RPG world on its head with not only some of the most stunning environments and detailed wilderness, but a system called Radiant AI, in which the NPCs and people moving about the wordl will act in a much more believeable way and go about their business like real medieval town and country folk. There's a vast world to explore which promises to really come alive around you. Check out the screens - these are not renders, but actual in game shots
