cyprus civil war

hola!

i am currently working on a campaign that takes place on the island of cyprus. as you can guess the fighting will be between the Greek Cypriot National Guard from the nation of Cyprus and the GKK from Northern Cyprus. Northern Cyprus is only recognized by Turkey, while Cyprus is recognized by the rest of the world.

Thanks to Blakarions new OpFor vehicle mod, I am going to be able to field quite a bit of hardware the GCNG uses...aka lots of Russian made material. If i could get my hands on an American made M48, or M60 I would add that to the GCNG's inventory, but beggars can't be choosers. :P

Progress has been steady, and i hope to have the missions done by the end of next week. ill decide this weekend when ill post requests for beta testing.

its funny how i originally set out to script just 2 missions for the wonderful cyprus lizard camo that XE Joker created a few weeks back. i'm now up to six missions with quite a few more in the works! :shifty:

other than that, ill update in this forum from time to time. if anyone would like to help out or whatnot, climb aboard, theres plenty of room for everyone! :D

It's 3 months I'm scripting the first 2 missions for Mission: Afghanistan (other than SWEBAT, Operation: Desperate Cry, other mods  :rofl: )

Will you use cinematics?

it's funny how i logged on to look up some information since ive just gotten REALLY stuck scripting! and i see your quote GiWeDa :P

The battles ive scripted are mostly raids and CQB. im trying to keep the amount of time for completion of each mission to around 30 minutes, but this could change once i get better aquainted with IGOR. The small Cypriot army used hit and run tactics on the Turks back in '74 to inflict terrible losses on them so my battles will be pretty brutal too.

finished 9 out of the 10 missions i am going to script for this campaign. Next week will be spent tweeking them.  :D

:thumbsup: Never seem to get enough campaigns for GR. Looking forward to the finished product.

ive been beta testing as i go, and i cant even win on some of my own missions! :wall: the battles are mostly fast paced and brutal CQB which is how i envision a war between Greek Cyprus and Turkish Northern Cyprus.

im hoping to have this out in early march...but we will see. :thumbsup:

Intersting setting for a mod as well. Certainly not one of the more prevelent conflicted areas in the world.

when joker released his cyprus camo skins, i thought just the same thing. but ive learned its quite the opposite there. the turks and greeks are literally seperated by a green line aka -the border- with turks on one side and greeks on the other. the UN has to maintain a constant watch over both ethnic groups or theyll start fighting each other. :(

ok. i am going to attempt to put some cinematics,effects and music in a few missions. :shifty:

look for a 3.1.5 release unless something goes wrong...backing up all this on disk today....... :rolleyes:

my biggest concern is that i used the stock russian officers skins for your fellow GCNG comrades in a few missions...the lizard camo seems to be used by more elite units, so that is why i used the russians....will this be a problem or not? :unsure:

Cool, cinematics really make the mission. Well that and good scripting. :D

i'll do my best to put a couple in. and i hope my scripting won't let you down. :P

i can't beat any of the missions without taking at least 1 or 2 casualties, or someone being wounded. :lol: the terrain of cyprus is perfect for ambushes, so you all have been warned. :P

to keep my march 1st release date, i am going to make this mod 9 missions instead of 10. i need more time to fiddle with the script for a mission. :rolleyes:

have no fear though, the 9 missions (i hope) will be more than adequate at making you all curse and for some of you....break things nearby. :P

just say malakas when a tangoe greases you to let off steam, and pretty soon you'll sound just like a greek cypriot. :lol:

another thing...i am about to start helping with the SANDF mod ingleoop and co. inherited from cobaka. so that mission i am having problems with, will hopefully be included since it would fit in that mod better than in this one. :shifty:

ok guys,

i have bad news. unforseen problems have come up so a march 1st date is out of the question. my guess is that once i get back to richmond monday or tuesday, i will fix any last second bugs before sending it to rocky for release....i'm guessing that's who i need to talk to about that..... :P

i am going to release this mod as a mission pack and not a full fledge mod complete with weapons and whatnot. in the READ ME i will give you some hints for what weapons the GCNG uses.

i also didnt get around to putting any cinematics in yet, because this mod is going to be revamped once blakarions US vehicle pack comes out. consider this a community beta even though i have played the heck out the missions and have yet to find anything that causes problems.

for all of you mac users out there....i use WinRar to unzip files i DL....i have been told i can zip these missions in winrar and it will still be compatible for all of you to unzip....is this correct? :unsure:

even though these missions dont have dramatic cinematics, what you are going to be getting are missions that will take some planning to beat. i cant even beat some of the missions at first myself!!!

be sure to have blakarions OpFor vehicle pack activated or you will get a CTD!!!!

other than that look for this to be out sometime next week.

keep getting ctd about a missing us base rocket kit missing.

which mission is causing you to CTD? i remember having that kit in there but taking it out. since ive been busy working on 4 different projects things are starting to mesh togther into one big blur.... :wacko:

ok, i found the usbase rocket kit in mission 4 aka mount olympus.

i have gone and replaced that kit with the AT4 kit.

is anyone else having problems with the same CTD?  :unsure:

Yes I did - I found it in "Cy03-nicosia.mis" as well. Peeps can simply open the file with Notepad and use Search&Replace to replace it with some other kit. I used "at4 and ak74.kit".

I am refraining from commenting on this mod until I have finished it. Let's say that it's looking pretty favourable :rocky:

i found another error guys. mission 5 phaphos docks. the extraction is in the shell hole at the top of the map but it isnt marked. :angry:

simply go into igor if you can, and check the box to get it to show up on your command maps. :wacko:

aside from the trivial bugs, i hope these missions have been challenging during gameplay... :)

one more thing.....when you gather up the PoW's at the extraction, a message box is supposed to appear. a prisoner informs you that a few of his buddies are inside the buildings waiting for you. the version i released was an older one that i forgot needed me to go and redo some things. :wall:

on mission 3 nicosia....point c is the street located in the upper right hand corner.

ive tried the other missions tonite as well, and havent found anything else wrong, but knock on wood. :rolleyes:

Like the missions so far. The skins and vehicles add a nice touch.

Unfortunatly cant go into Igor on a Mac to fix anything, we didn't get Igor. Can someone fix it and make a mission patch?

Also, I'm getting a CTD on mission 7. Anyone else experienceing this? Ive tried it in quick mission and CTD.

Are you planning on making the missions MP Coop compatible?

I'm working on a Mac friendly version of the MOD, so I am just testing it before we put it on the website. MacGamingMods.com

richmondskin, the ctd in mission 7 is being caused by some of the members of the 'Upstairs' team in 'GKK" platoon being equpped with the sr25sd_only.kit

I have had trouble with this myself in the past - if you re-equip them, the mission runs fine. It has to do with GR being a bit case sensitive :rolleyes:

Anyway, when I've had a chance to play mission 7 I will do you up a 'report card' on the mod as a whole :D
