Militiaman 0
I am curious about Virtual Battlespace. Is there a Demostrative version for this game yet (try the game out without buying it)? Can you also modify the weapons to your own custom settings in this like you can in Ghost Recon? I am more interested in single player than multiplayer games.
Sart 34
I am curious about Virtual Battlespace. Is there a Demostrative version for this game yet (try the game out without buying it)? No, although there is one for Operation Flashpoint, try that. It will give you a great taste of what VBS is like. Can you also modify the weapons to your own custom settings in this like you can in Ghost Recon? Not sure. It's not like IGOR were you can just open the editor, and change some numbers, but then again I'm not a modder, so I'm not sure how easy it is. I am more interested in single player than multiplayer games. ← You probably wont want VBS then. It's main focus is on Multi player. If you want a great Single player game, give Flashpoint a twirl. WP33 0
Speaking purely from a base of ignorance about OFP, so I have no input on that game, I can say for sure that VBS1 is tons easier to create and alter missions for than Ghost Recon, literally allowing you to change a mission on the fly, which is pretty cool. You can have as many iterations of a mission as you desire, changing enemy units, available weapons, operable vehicles, camels even... (who said that? ) Now, that being said, this isn't a game (though, as I've said many times before, we play it as such). Therefore, it isn't structured like a game. While there is a single player setting, there is no "campaign", just individual missions, though you can alter these in-game, on the fly, as you see fit. You must keep in mind that VBS1 was designed as a simulator- a tactical training aid- so musical score, story, character development are completely unnecessary, and as far as I for one am concerned, unwanted. You can play with friendly AI support on the single player operations. Gun alteration, ballistically, I'd have you refer to Parabellum, as he's the most knowledgable guy I can think of on the subject of how the ballistics work in OFP/VBS1, and has modded for it already. He's your ace there. So, we get down to brass tacks here. The reason why I personally like this thing at this point has more to do with the community growing up around it than VBS1 itself- which is damn good as a game, I'll say that. We're mature enough to "play it right" (well, most of the time, anyway... ) and many of the guys playing are people I am rapidly coming to consider friends. For me it's the multiplayer aspect that brings me back, and will for a long while.
dekela 0
as sart has pointed out, there is no demo version of VBS. take his advice and try the one for OFP, as it is similar to VBS, and wont cost you the earth. as wp has said, mission creation is probably the easiest i have seen, and allows for a huge array of possibilites. the vbs community is only just scratching the surface of what this puppy is capable. single player can be fun with your own missions or ones downloaded, but by far Mp is the way to go. VBS was designed for MP and as such does a fine job of it. changing weapon ballistics is able to be done, although until you work out how, it can be very frustrating. new textures can be applied to objects, and of cause new weapons, vcl and such can be made and added. one advantage is that all the modding tools you need are available for free, no expensive modelling programs are needed. although max can be used for the most part. again will you like/enjoy it, only you will know for sure. get the OFP demo, if you like it get the GOTY edition and have a run through that. if you end up hooked, than you will more than likely love VBS cheers......
