CR6 0
What is the game engine? ← Good question - I'm curious about this myself. There has been no public statement in interviews and previews yet about what engine they are using.
Hatchetforce 0
What is the game engine? ← The PS2 version of Rainbow Six 4 will use a specially developed new graphics engine to even further enhance the immersion of the player into the gunfights. Info here: http://ps2.gamespy.com/playstation-2/rainb...e/569617p1.html Official boards reveal no info on the PC engine. Odds are the Xbox engine will use the R63/BA engine. CR6 0
The PS2 version of Rainbow Six 4 will use a specially developed new graphics engine to even further enhance the immersion of the player into the gunfights. ← I saw that preview way back, but that statement is does not give too much detail about the engine: What I want to know is whether the R6-4 engine is based on the GR2 engine, or branched off from the original GR1 engine, or was developed from scratch, or licensed from another company. Red Storm has only developed one 3D shooter engine in-house from scratch, and it would be difficult (but not impossible) to develop a 2nd in-house that is not based on the one that has its roots in the original Rainbow Six. Here's the history of the development of RSE's in-house engine as I remember ... Generation 1: Rainbow Six (incl Eagle Watch) Generation 2: Rogue Spear (incl Urban Ops, Covert Ops, Black Thorn) Anne McCaffrey's Freedom: First Resistance Generation 3: Ghost Recon 1 Sum of All Fears Generation 4: Ghost Recon 2 Rainbow Six 4? CR6 0
Well whaddya know, here's the answer to my question: New Lockdown interview: http://www.cgonline.com/content/view/189/2/ John Slaydon - The engine for R6 Lockdown is a fairly significant revision of the standard Red Storm engine. The biggest change was of course making the engine work with the PS2. We also cleaned up our lighting system and added atmospheric effects like light beams and halos. A major change is that we have replaced our in-house physics with the Havok 2 engine. Combining that with a whole new animation system, we can do physics blending for shot reactions and death, which looks great as guys topple off buildings and balconies. CR6 0
Another Lockdown interview at FileFront http://articles.filefront.com/Rainbow_Six_...;;/article.html Highlights from this interview include the revelation that "Rainbow Five" will make his first ever appearance in a Rainbow game ... Colonel Rocky Stanley (UK, ex-SAS), who appeared as Team Rainbow's Executive Officer in the the Rainbow Six novel finally makes his debut in the series. (A lot of people don't realize that the title "Rainbow Six" refers to the Commanding Officer of Team Rainbow, John Clark, and not to Team Rainbow itself.) NYR_32 6
Sweet news about the engine! I saw a few videos at IGN, and one caught my attention. I heard a famliar sound hehehe, one of the sniper rifles uses the M24 sound from GR1. I wonder if SOAF was in anyway a proof of concept for the R6:4 engine development, while RvS was thrown out there to fill in the gap? Don't mind my 2:30am rambling
Hatchetforce 0
(A lot of people don't realize that the title "Rainbow Six" refers to the Commanding Officer of Team Rainbow, John Clark, and not to Team Rainbow itself.) ← Correct. The Six is the Team Commander. Not in the sense of SF Team or SEAL Team. Usually we are talking about a smaller group. An example is we use it in the sense of an assault team leader. In true military jargon, Chavez, not Clark would be the Six because Chavez has boots on the ground.
Sart 34
I really don't like the fact you can play as only two characters, and they seem to have gotten rid of a lot of the old characters, as well as multiple teams (except Web). No like... Thats a big change from R6, RS, and even RvS (Which only dropped 1 fire team). I'm guessing there isn't a planning phase either? Thats what I loved best about the R6 series. They should of kept it like RvS were you can choose to plan, or just skip and use the default HQ plan. That alone will keep it away from me. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
