Rocky 1,224
Finding my system a little unstable these days, and the startup time pathetic, I was considering a reinstall of XP. Before I go that far, I figured I'd try out some Registry cleaners. So I downloaded the first 4 that Google found and tried them all out. I timed them all and recorded all the results. Some took over 3 minutes, one took less than 90 seconds. They all found over 500 "errors", some higher than 700. You can view the results in the attached xls spreadsheet. Anyone have experience of these or other Registry cleaners? The ones I tried... Registry Mechanic Win Reg Repair Registry Fix CleanMyPcregistry_tools.zip

firefly2442 0
Did you try the Microsoft Reg Cleaner? That one seem to work well.
Giampi 39
I'm very fond of reg cleaning and I regularly run some dedicated softwares. Many people report they are having lots of problem to use them but it's not my case and I highly recommend them. These are my favourite ones (and different than yours, Rocky) - Ccleaner (freeware) www.ccleaner.com - Regcleaner (freeware) its development is not going on anymore but it's almost perfect and can be found here for example - Regseeker (freeware) find it here Rocky, I can't make a good test as yours since my system is very clean. It would be interesting if you could test them in the same way. Thanks Edited January 31, 2005 by giwex

I'll try and find that MS one and I'll run Giwex's ones too Then I'll contact each vendor, show them the results and ask for comments, then see if they want to offer a couple of free liceneses for GRnet members

That one seem to work well. ← Can't find it, got a link? ← Here for example http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_desc...fid,4666,00.asp Take care that the software was developed for Win95/98 and it's no longer supported by M$
firefly2442 0
I'm kind of surprised Microsoft didn't release a free version of a regcleaner for windows xp. Anybody know if they released one in those extra tools that you could download?
NightCrawler 137
I've tried the registry mech. and loved it with the exception of it only doing six entries at a time. If you do indeed get any full versions, I'd love to be one of the testers. Or else I'll probably buy it.
