:) Hey all,

I just started playing around with VBS1.

I was wondering what settings all of you were using to get great graphics with great gameplay.

So far, despite my beefy system and a cable internet connection, my graphics do not look like your screenshots and I am getting a decent amount of lag.

My system:

AMD 64 3400+

ASUS K8V SE Deluxe

ATI Radeon 9600XT

1.5 GB of PC 2100 Memory

So what resolution and such (visibility/details/etc) are all of you using?

Hi mate- first thing make sure you have the latest core update available... ;)

go to VBS Resources under add ons and DL it. This will eleimate a lot of lag esp if ur encountering it in SP.

And as settings for graphics. I'm at work but I can tell you that the best settings are got through here:-

From the desktop.

1Got to Start Menu-

2select the folder Bohemia Interactive.

3Select VBS1 Folder...

4Select VBS1 Preferences

5Select Advanced

6this will bring a series of options u can go to the various sub folder by using the tabs along the top of the folder.

7 select the far right tab...This will bring up a tab with some option at top and below two slide options

Shadows LOD and Objects LOD

Move both os these extreme right....0.005

And start VBS1...use the core update and LOD will improve performance. Obviously I can't post any more screens of options But I'm sure someone else can...

hope it helps. this is for quality graphics, you can take a big slug in performance with them, but my puter handles them with good frames

i have a P4 3.0Ghz

Radeon 9600XT

and a gig of PC 3200 ram

cheers......

:stupid:

I can't believe I forgot the core update. I had even posted in that thread...

I also did the preference thingy.

I'm going to be installing DXLL soon as well and taking a look at my ATI control panel to see if anything needs tweaking.

While I have you EXPERTS here, what other addons are considered essential (used very often on servers/hosted games)? While browsing for the core update I saw alot of addons that looked pretty important such as chopper dust and the fastrope update for ADF...

 On a side note...I think the DXLL Tool is evil...

I loaded it up and was adjusting the settings...and then I did something I wasn't supposed to do (according to the readme file). I tried to change the resolution in VBS1 and my PC froze.

So I rebooted my PC and got a message that the overclocking had failed (I don't overclock anything). In addition, all my bios settings had been set back to default, so my computer had to relearn all of it's attached hardware and be told about the hardware that I did not have (RAID?SATA/PROMISE/etc).

I know alot of you use this tool and have never had a problem, but does anyone know exactly how it works? Does it need to adjust any bios settings to achieve its effects?

I'm too afraid to use it again right now and will deal with not having reflective water...

UPDATE:

After a few ups and downs I was able to get the DXLL Mod working properly and all I can manage to say is WOW!

Those graphics are far beyond what the original game had.

Here's my new concern though: framerates

I've been using VBS1 Core mission #9, with the crashed c130, as a measurement. I can run over to the reflective water and kneel in it and have framerates in the high 70's-80's (my monitor only goes to 85Hz so I never see FPS of more than 86). However, while running to the C130 I often have a FPS in the 30's and I've seen it drop into the 20's when the enemy closes in.

What is considered "average" for FPS and how will MP affect my current FPS scores?

Thats a pretty good range you have there mate, my system isnt as good as yours and i get single figure fps at certain points in the missons, depending on whats going on, so i figure yours is probably about right.. ;)

I'm running a FX 5200 aswell and I can fully agree with you NC, it's a POS card indeed...only reason I got it was because it was nice and cheap at the time. I'm getting decent framerates at 1024x768 though...but only after changing from 32bit colour down to 16 bit
