I had a very similar problem as you Prozac, but with a Pioneer DVD\DVD-RW drive.

Whenever I inserted a DVD, be it - or +, it would just not copy, it said please insert a diskette into the drive. Which annoyed me, as by this time I'd spent so much money on replacement discs, with the thinking I had brought the wrong type/make.

I used NERO in the end, not the Windows burner, like Dan said, it crap. The only problem with NERO though is it would only burn at 1x ######!!!

It should have been much higher, but it worked, which is all I am worried about.

So try changing some of the settings in NERO, that should do the trick.

True. But it won't solve the problem of drive breaking discs in two pieces.

You may want to take a look at a new drive. And right now, stick with CDr's until the kinks are worked out of the DVD-R's and RW's.

I keep reading about issues with driver and software standards, and they have issues burning above 1x.

Just something to think about. :rocky:
