WytchDokta 6
For some reason, the ground on Far Cry is pure black, and the areas that are meant to be light are way to bright, this is long and short distance. Sometimes the ground in the distance will be black, sometimes normal colour. It's the same for the foreground. Sometimes the black goes away when I walk on a bit of ground that is black. I got the graphics cranked to the max. The game only lets me select Direct 3D, there's no OpenGL option for me. This is the only game giving me any problems. The rest of the games work fine. Oh, and FC worked brilliant on my old rig, no black ground on the old rig. My rigs' specs (this might help you out in solving my problem): AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Windows XP home GeForce 6800 GT (current driver version: 6.14.00.10.6121 [ Det. 61.21 ]) DirectX 9.0c There's a (what's seems to be) newer driver available on the nVidia site: ver. 66.93, but: Added support for GeForce 6600, GeForce 6600 GT, and GeForce 6200 No support for 6800 GT mentioned. WytchDokta 6
Ah, Det 66.93 drivers do support GeForce FX 6800GT Ok, I installed the 66.93 drivers, it hasn't helped much. It has sorted this problem to some extent, I'm still left with big black squares under enemies, vehicles etc, but it's not as bad as it was. Lemme show you some screenies of how it stands at this present moment in time: Note, the building in the second pic is stupidly too bright. It's still doing this too. Ideas? Dannik 43
It's a known bug for many nVidia chipsets. The patch, which updates Far Cry to version 1.1, solves your problems in most cases.
WytchDokta 6
Er....when I click any of those links to the sites mirroring the patch, it comes up with v1.3.... FilePlanet says v1.3 is the first patch for Far Cry.
Dannik 43
1.3 and 1.1 are the same patch. The only difference is the name. I think Crytek didn't bother releasing patches 1.1 and 1.2, but finally did release it as 1.3, which Ubisoft renamed 1.1 later. Anyway, point is, there's only one actual Far Cry patch out there, no matter what it's numbered as.
WytchDokta 6
....yeah, and the patch is 74MB - I'm gonna be here til the year 2154 downloading this with my 56k modem.... Also, I'd like to point out that my old rig had a GeForce 4 TI4600 in it, that didn't have any of the graphical issues. Edited January 23, 2005 by .:Nightmare:. Dannik 43
I realize the patch is huge for you, but it's the only real solution to your problem, barring going back to your old video card. The issues you are having are specific to the nVidia 6xxx series cards. It doesn't matter if your old nVidia card worked perfectly or not. Best suggestion I have is find a mate or internet cafe with decent rates and broadband. Although if you're going that route, you should make sure you grab all the patches and updates you might need, for all your software, just in case.
pz3 338
patch 1.3 is the first real patch.......... 1.1 wasa hotfix.... 1.2 was going to be a patch before they realised it was ful of bugs! 1.3 works the best and adds HDR rendering... its a cool effect but not worth turning it on . plus i think pixelshader 3 was introduced or somthing too
