Hoak
Everything can be had at a lower price if purchased in quantity, it's just good business sense... I'm wondering how many GR Fans here would be interested in swinging together and making a group purchase? Of course it remains to be seen what level of discount we could achieve and what size of an order would be required -- but I'm certain it could be substantial... Just feeling things out for the moment...

AUS_Viper
Everything can be had at a lower price if purchased in quantity, it's just good business sense... ← It's only good business sense to offer a discount in the following circumstances: 1. The product is at the end of it's life cycle 2. There is little or no market for the item 3. There is another competitive product on the market that poses a serious threat Unfortunately, none of the above applies at the moment. I'd be surprised if you managed to pull off a discount. What the hell though - good luck
pz3
shoot that would be sweet if they discount it..... how much of a discount ya think thoe?
SnowFella
Only one way to find out mate....round up as many ppl as you can find that want's to buy the sim and shoot off an email to BIA asking how much of a discount you would be able to get. Parabellum
Here's my take on it: The civilian market is a very small part of the VBS1 marketplace. BIA and CTCorp sell en masse to militaries around the world. I don't think that either BIA or CTCorp will be particularly moved by a few civilians trying to save a buck. Hoak
Well, I'm usually pretty good at getting results with things like this; I've written them, lets sit back, wait, and see what they say... In the event that we get a favorable response, and the offer looks reasonable; are there any of Rocky's Pallys here that might interest him in getting such a GRN offer on the front page so that we could maximize the opportunity? I don't think he likes me...

WP33
What Para said. I don't see them bending over backwards for what will be a relatively small group of recreational players. Keep in mind, even if you do get a small discount, they'll still rail you on the price, because as Viper said, there's no competing product (remember, this isn't a game) and it's relatively new, especially in North America. As far as being good business sense, they don't care if they have your business, to be honest. It's not intended for you. OFP was. And really the perhaps 20 copies you might be able to swing pales in comparison to the hundreds and thousands they get out of agencies that have been duped into buying $500 toilet seats, especially as fickle as retail buyers are- being the first to complain in most cases when things don't live up to expectations (witness the myriad Ghost Recon 2 threads going on now). Just my two cents, but if you think you can pull it Hoak, go for it.
Dan
ur gunna need alot of guys, and good luck cordinating it if it works, americans will have to deal with CT, cos BIA arent gunna send to america. You will either need an all-american or no-american crew.
WP33
I hadn't even considered what Dan brought up, either. He's right. Plus, keep in mind certain add-ons aren't available in the US, if you end up with US buyers.
Old_Geezer
Omg Omg Omg! Until 20 minutes ago I had no idea what VBS1 was. I've just been skimming their site with awe and reverence. Had someone pointed this out to me after my first post in the GR2 forum I would likely not have made a second. This sounds like complete gaming Nirvana! The multiplayer aspect sounds compelling too...though I find it hard to imagine seeing many servers with reasonable pings (at least here in Ontario). I feel 500 bucks or so burning a hole in my pocket. If you can actually figure out a way to arrange a group discount (and have the patience to organize it), lemme know. Start an "Adult Gamers" club/web page and convince them you're trying to establish the discerning gamer as a viable sales demographic? I dunno. Time for more research! CrowmanUK
The netcode seems to be really good, we were on a server in Australia with 10 guys on, 400 ping and no lag, theres a dedicated server in the UK too and I get a ping of 10 on there. WP33
The multiplayer aspect sounds compelling too...though I find it hard to imagine seeing many servers with reasonable pings (at least here in Ontario). ← Actually, most of the servers are pretty good. Plus the netcode is excellent. I've got Suicide Commando connecting to me from one side of the US to the other and he's on 56k- He can usually stay in the 350-450 range- not bad for 56k across 3000 miles really-, and guys like Mac, who's about halfway across the US from me on cable I think, runs at about 80-90. Guys in Australia via cable or DSL connect at the low and mid-200s. I feel 500 bucks or so burning a hole in my pocket. ← Hard to resist, isn't it? If you can actually figure out a way to arrange a group discount (and have the patience to organize it), lemme know. Start an "Adult Gamers" club/web page and convince them you're trying to establish the discerning gamer as a viable sales demographic? I dunno. Time for more research! ← Not to throw water on the fire, which isn't really my intention (I'm really just giving my two cents on what I think might happen, not trying to discourage the attempt), VBS1 isn't a game, and even approaching BIA on the basis of creating a community of discerning gamers may not be effective. This thing was designed from the ground up to be a simulator and created for a certain target. Unfortunately we weren't it... I think if they were smart, they'd probably polish it up a bit and release it as an MP only game, like Joint Ops, and it would probably crush the competition. Old_Geezer
You're right...it likely would be a bad idea. I just fired off a carefuly worded info request to CT (I'm in Canada). I'm prepared to spend the next few weeks saving up for the whole kit and kabootle (except that observer pack) if it means compatibility with all user created materials. 500 bucks would be a wise investment if it keeps me from buying any games for even close to one year. Not sure about that animal pack though...it doesn't mention birds, anyone know if it has'em? It would be cool to have the enemy tipped off because a group of pigeons in an alley scattered on your arrival...or pheasants out in the woods. The net code sounds good indeed. Looking even more forward to it!

warhawk
And don't forget too that in at least one case an add on pack sold by CTCorp and another by BIA could be incompatible. In this specific case I am thinking of the Marine Pack, which if memory serves me correctly could be a moot point anyway.
