firefly2442 0
Ok, my system is really dirty. I opened the tower up the other day and it was filthy. There was dust all over. Any good way to clean it without destroying anything or frying stuff? I was thinking use a vacum cleaner and blow air into and on areas to blow dust out..... any more ideas? Stinger 0
Buy some canned air. Just spray the innerds and it doesnt do any harm. High pressure too.
NightCrawler 137
A small vacuum and a can of air, maybe a small brush for the bottom. You really should have a regular cleaning schedule.
Meth 0
You may also wanna try buying/making filters for your intake fans.

firefly2442 0
Cool thanks. I tried water but I heard a sizzling sound and woke up in the hospital 6 days later and couldn't remember much of anything.....

WhiteKnight77 1
I have filters on my intake fans. You can find filters at local PC parts shops. The ones I got, I picked up at a PC show that was in town. If you want to make up some real easy, go to the local pet store, heck a Super Wal-Mart may even have a pet department, that sells fish tank supplies. Get the Whisper style of filter that you add the charcol to and get fan grilles from CompUsa and cut the filter material to size and install the parts over the intake ports of your PC. XRW_Hotdog 2
this is so weird... i just heard something on the radio today about this exact topic where they said to put filters on your fan intakes to keep dust out and i thought what a good idea.
snakebite1967 0
ya i use filters on my intakes too but a good can of air and a vacuum gets the job done. uhum reminds me of a recent visit to help a friend out with pc probs i wont mention names he knows who i mean lol, anyway i drove over to his house and man i could not believe my eyes so after politley asking him if he stored his pc in wood shavings or a lint bin which he took with very good grace i thought considering he was holding a screwdriver at the time , its amazing how little we think about the inside of our case unless we upgrade or have issues
Stinger 0
Filters may help some but they only make a difference if you have little air flow going through. I dont use em and I dont think I ever will. I havent had any dust in side the case yet that is noticeable even.
NightCrawler 137
You must live in a newer home, my place is dust central...the place was built in 1950. But I do open mine up every week and give it a cleaning.
RooK 0
Actually, filters won't work too well if you have exhaust fans. Unless you seal the sides of your case with silicone or calk, then it just sucks dust through every crack in your case. Fighting dust is a losing battle
RooK 0
Speaking of cleaning, decided I'd open the old box, especially since she's been running warm lately (40c typical). If only I knew! Opened her up and there were dust bunnies just about everywhere I couldn't see. Had to rip the front panel off and clean my filter as it was caked in a layer of dust. Next, pulled the fan off the heatsink. To my horror it also caked and the reason for the high temps. Used a compressor and vacuum and it's back in working order. Might need to check in on it more often
Killa_N_Manila 0
I'm gonna get around to cleaning out one of my older cases that is still lined with a film of dust so I can put some older parts in it. That can of air definately comes in handy for cleaning the fans on my vid card and processor. A great $3 investment.

Time to pull out the Hoover and open my baby up. Perhaps we'll find all sorts of goodies in there ...A can of compressed air sounds nice too...off to BestBuy we go. RooK 0
Try Wal-Mart or something similar for the canned air first. They buy in bulk and usually will have a cheaper price on that kind of stuff. I just use a small compressor that I used for airbrushing with a nozzle attachment. It works, just I might want to invest in a moisture trap to prevent frying components. NightCrawler 137
When using canned or compressed air, remember to first power down your PC's.

Ok, I won't take that as a personal insult...but do I really sound like a flippin' ######? That's just common sense. Anyway, I picked up a can of JR Dust Off at BestBuy, cause Wally World only had 2Packs of 17oz. cans The JR was on sale too.
