I was getting frames in the low to mid teens in VBS with my current system(2.4ghz P4/512mb DDR/9700PRO). Just ordered a new MB and Althon 64 cpu. I got an Abit AV8 VIA Socket 939 MB and the 3400+ AMD. Also picked up a dual channel 1gb ddr pack (2x512). So know I should get some more performance out of VBS. Hopefully it will be enough to keep me from upgrading the 9700 Pro.

I have heard that VBS is more about RAM than GPU - there is quite the thread about it over at the resources sight I think.

I have 1GB of the good ole DRAM and a 9700pro along with a P4 2.4 and am pretty satisfied with my frames, although I am not the Graphic Junky like some of the others.

Yeah the game was playable for sure and the fps really didn't bother me. IIRC my settings are: 1280 x 1024 and normal detail on about everything. But it has been around 2+ years so I thought it was time for an upgrade. Plus this will allow me to take the parts from my current computer and build a home theather pc type dealie.

@ SC mate that set up will run VBS1 NP at all. Dekela had a steam driven PC so old it's not funny and that one ran. It was well below the Min Spec Machine recommended and ran VBS1

Before U upgraded my Grahpic Card I had a GFX2 and it ran VBS1 NP at all as well.

Sounds like you and I have kind of the same machine SC. 'Cept I have a Nvidia 5700LE 256MB card. Got it for cheap. We'll see how it runs, once it finally shows up...

I definately gotta upgrade soon. My 1.8 P4,1 gig of older PC2100 RAM and FX 5800 are not by any standards up to date.

VBS should run ok for me though, I hope....

Dude, your machine smokes mine, and I run VBS1 just fine. I can't believe that some of you guys are complaining about your rigs. If anyone of you guys is dissatisfied with your p2.4 and 1 gig of RAM, please, send it my way.

Or send it my way if it's closer than sending it to Para!

Running VBS1 decently on my old P4 1.8Ghz, 1024 Mb PC2100 RAM and a POS (Piece of ######) GF FX 5200 128Mb card, can't say I get the best graphics or anything but it's still very playable. Just wish I would get more time to play it though, haven't been on with the CShag lot in over a month now :(

that is very true, the old 566 with 128 ramand gf2 card did run vbs, all be it at reduced quality.

my new rig, P4 3.0Ghz, with 1 gig 3200 ram and 9600xt runs a lot better. i have all my settings rather high and manage 20-30 frames on wooded maps and anywhere from 50 upwards on the less detailed maps. have had 90+ on one part of the desert map. all systems will run better in MP due to the lower view distance aswell

cheers......

Gee, look what I started. :D

Well I know it'll run ok, just like talking myself into spending the dough on a new computer. Thing that sucks is that it's gonna have to be totally from scratch pretty much this time cept for the monitor and harddrive.

Good to know the game runs well on older equipment though.

Got the new stuff installed over the weekend. Pretty big difference. My fps is now constantly in the high 20s and 30s in the heavy forested areas (bumped the LOD to high IIRC) and around 50 or so in the desert. The best part is that the fps hasn't dipped down below 15 where as before it would go down to 2 or 3 fps. Some times in the menu screen I get 150 fps when not much is in the background. With the old stuff I would get above 20 even at the same menu screens. I had the HD from my old computer first and then a day or two later I picked up a serial ATA drive and it seemed to give me atleast a few more fps.
