Need a black painted freindly vehicle icon

Hi

Im using DonMiguels dummy target for a number of applications in my soon to be finished mod and was hoping someone would be able to paint the neccessary channel for the freindly tank (its actually a bmp, but used as freindly) black so it would be invisible, dont care if it means all the freindly tanks would be transparent, I just need to get rid of the dummy targets appearing and disappearing on command map.

I would certainly give credit for this in the credits list in the last mission. I only have psp7 so I cant do anything with channels or I might have been able to figure this one out.

Hope someone can help.

XE_Joker, thanks for the reply

after looking into the vehicle editor to see what the 'Dummtarget' is listed as, its listed as 'Tank', so what I seek is to have the command map Icon for that vehicle not show up. It dosent matter to me if all the 'tank' vehicles dont show, just need that command map Icon Alpha channel painted black so it dosent show. If needed I can provide where the 'dummytarget' is, to change that if it can be done within the vehicle files themselves, one is a studio max file.

If you guys can help pull this off would be really great, then the target vehicle wont show up as it is used as a target on the command map, which happens about one hundred times in the different missions.

It seems it cant be done in the mission editor, cant hide vehicle command map icons. :(

Thanks

I dont know if this helps, but the sound for the 'dummytarget' is v_bmp3.wav, which has no sound which removes vehicle sound, so that would be the exact vehicle it must be.

I am almost at begging here  , I really need the command map icon transparent(un-seeable) for that vehicle, I think its just a matter of painting the appropriate Aplha Channel for that vehicle icon, help me out guys please, mods almost done and it would be a great help to the mods realizm.

you can download this cmi.rsb here:

http://souverijn.org/Images/cmi.rsb

it goes into the shell folder of your mod

Tested it out, and found all the tanks still show on command map?

Placed the new cmi image in the mods Shell\Art folder

Prioritized the mod to highest

Dont know, the tank icons all showed in the mission, both freindly and enemy, the dummytarget being used is 'freindly' in use in mission(in case that helps) but as I say, all the tank icons showed, freindly and enemy, dunno.

Is it possible the tank image even when painted black means nothing because in the missions it is then colored either green or red depending on if its an enemy or freindly tank?

No news like bad news :(

Spent a little time lookin at the cmi image in psp7, of course, really no clue what im lookin at, but I had a thought, instead of painting the tank image black can it just be removed? Therefore (as long as it dosent cause a crash) the GR program wouldnt be able to color it red or green, cause it dosent exist.

Just tryin to come up with a solution :)

hmm I'll try and test it on my system

edit//ok I've tried it out and your right. Because there's two pic's used for tank, don't know why, but I've blacked that one out as well, you should try it again now, redownload the cmi.rsb, and off you go. It worked on my comp (the tanks in d08 mission didn't show up anymore). If it still doesnt work for you, make a pic of your commandmap when they show up and send it to chiel_mic@hotmail.com, or just post it here.

Excellent Job chiel_mic  , it now works.

Now that I have you  , would you mind making one more version of the cmi? Would be great to have a version that blacks out all vehicles and ai unit Icons on the command map, sounds crazy but it would be a great option, and would add a realistic aproach to the game, rather than having tanks not show but a truck does, etc. And removing the ai unit icons would resolve a number of problems Ive had with trying to hide some allied units (it never hides em  ) and enemy sniper problems too.

Like I said, either way I will for sure add you guys to the credits in the final cins for the mod.

Cool!

All of em  , cept for the player team icons of course :)

Hopefully peeps wont hate me for this, but ive tried mapactorhide so many times and never got any results really, and my missions utilize very long range viewing distances which tends to wreck hiding enemy snipers.

Thanks, look forward to seeing that

can't make it happen that only the allied forces are visible from the map, as there's only one version of each and the game fills it red or green as the circumstances are.

have you used the regular hide response in igor or MAPHIDEZONE or MAPHIDEZONECOMPANY??? or other maphide things, as these are supposed to hide stuff from the commandmap only

edit//read it in the original ww3 reloaded thread sorry :shifty:

either way, here you have one with all icons blacked out:

Hey chiel_mic, thanks, will give it a try in a few

Actually had gotten frustated with all that before, but hiding a zone would only hide the lil icon for a zone. Beleive me, I had tried all of this months ago and had given up on it all cause none of it hid anything.

I did spend some time and searched in the forums and found what I was looking for, which is that you really cant effectively use mapactorhide for allies or enemies, and for it to work with enemies they have to be invisible (got most of this from Jack's responses), which would never work for my missions. He actually suggested a few times to do what you have done to hide mapactors  Heres 2 of Jacks replies on the subject just so I dont appear a dummy

Jacks Reply1

Hi Stalker, this MapActorHide is one of the more recalcitrant functions in GR. To be honest I have never been able to get it to work with any sort of consistancy, especially with friendlies.

Chavez is on the money with setting him CaptiveActorOn - why it works in this state is a mystery  You could have it so that the CaptiveActor is turned off when the players find him so that he will revert to normal behaviour - depends on the requirements of the story you are scripting.

You can use Invisiblity instead of MapActorHide as Zeko suggests, but it only works for enemy, and in any case in a situation where you are wanting to hide an actor on the command map you probably don't want him to be set to InvisiblityOn.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Jack

Jacks Reply2

They only way to effectively hide allied actors on the command map is to hide them from the game world or edit the cmi.rsb and remove the icon (assuming you don't want to set them all to Captive behaviour - see below).

You can't hide\show map labels. One way to achieve it, (if haven't done the cmi.rsb edit above) is to use friendly actors - leave them as hidden (from the game world) but use MapActorShow to make them show on the command map as green dots. If you create custom actors for this you can edit the actor names to something meaningful and this will show as mouse-over text on the command map. If the mission is for MP however, you may run into the Shadow bug.

An Alternative is to use MapZoneShow and MapZoneColor to dynamically indicate locations on the map.

Cheers, Jack

:D

Ill give that a try, greatly appreciated
