"Glitching" vs Taking Cover

When you crawl up the the edge of a crater or ditch and peak over, you're glitched. I can see you, but I can't kill you without explosives. You, on the other hand, can kill me with impunity. Now you know...

Do it again, and you're a cheater.

if a guy is in a crater, how is he supposd to know how much of his body he should expose to you so you can take a free shot.

if you shoot and miss, should he say something like "can you see me now" and if you answer no, he moves out a bit more and say "what about now" and this keeps going until you finally answer him with a bullet? :D

As for glitching I personally am so sick of hearing that word...if you come across someone glitching just back off, flank him, inform a teammate so they can help you out. There are tons of options. 9 times outta 10 the person in the glitch has no idea they are glitching. Its the guys that crawl inside rocks or shoot through walls that I have a real problem with.

I agree 100% with that statement.

In my article I intentially left out the glitches where you can shoot through rocks and walls.

I know quite some spots where you can shoot through rocks and walls but I figured giving that kind of info publicly would be too much info for potential cheaters.

So let me get this straight

I'm playing GR online, let's say. I know my flanks are covered by my buddies, so I crawl up to the crest of a hill and look over. Naturally, I do this near a bush, so my sillouhette doesn't break over the hill crest. I see one of you guys, and I pop you.

another situation: I am cut off from my buddies, so I decide to make a last-stand in a ditch. I lay prone, laying along the course of the ditch, trusting to luck that if someone come up behind me, he'll miss seeing me. I see a bad guy run across the ditch in front of me, and I yank the trigger on him: a kill.

I'm Cheating in those situations?!? Horsehockey I am! I got the drop on you, click-bang, that's all she wrote. The only "unfair" aspect was that you were careless and I was tactically smart in the first example, and lucky in the second. Doing somebody in the back isn't fair: it's called "soldiering".

Kinda like this: :o=:wall: While you're beating your head against the wall searching for me in the wrong place, I ruin your day. How can that be cheating? I didn't use something not modelled in-game to gain an advantage- I used my head.

You completely missed the point there.

Read the topics and replies again..you don't go through START and get $20.000.

As a new player, I have to say that this is somewhat disappointing to read about. For such an important tactic to be basically taken away is really surprising. How is it that such a significant problem hasn't been fixed yet?

:rocky: I definitely agee with nib on this. Using a depression in the landscape as cover and concealment is a very basic and instinctive tactic. Why hasn't UBI provided a patch to correct this problem?

Just so that there is no confusion...although I wish UBI would fix this problem, until they do...I also consider using this tactic in multiplayer as cheating.

Actually, I read 'em all, and the saying is, "do not pass GO, do not collect $200"

From what I read, various players were complaining of someone cheating by the simple act of taking cover behind a hill crest or in a ditch. I have taken that scenario one step further in my examples, by adding a kill. I have zero experience playing GR on-line, my connection is snail-like. I can only imagine that glitches similar to the MP game are present in the SP mode, and I haven't seen anyone through a rock or hillside, but some bad guys have fired at me, even though I am well in cover behind a wall- I wasn't hit, but they still fired. I wax them and then I see that the inside wall has all sorts of bullet holes from were they were, targetting me through a wall. That is a glitch. This situation is being mentioned by some of the posts here, in the same vein as taking cover behind objects that should count as cover legitimately.

If I have misunderstood something, you'd be giving a lot more input if you weren't so condescending and actually helped. You may not recognise my username, but I have been around this board a lot in the past, and in any case, my low number of posts does not indicate any lack of intelligence or reading comprehension on my part. I've got to say that your reply makes you sound like an ass. Sorry, but I didn't make you post your attempt to put me down, you decided that on your own. If it wasn't meant as an insult, you should read your own posts, and consider how someone might interpret what you post. If you'd like to make a point other than "462cid is wrong", I'd love to hear your input. If not, I really can't see why you bother posting.

I think you ARE missing a point here. In your examples you are getting the "drop" on people and getting a nice kill before they even see you. I can see why you would see nothing wrong with that, but the problem is deeper than that. In "glitching" you can still be seen by the other players but cannot be shot and killed from the front. Therefore, if I am quietly making my way across a clearing and happen to spot your head sticking out of a ditch...I'll put my sights on you...pull the trigger..and..bang bang bang :o= ...NOTHING! You will not be hit by my bullets because it is a "glitch" in the game...meanwhile you'll hear my incoming fire, turn your sight on me and blow me outta my boots. You can see how that is completely unfair. That is why online players do not allow the tactic of purposefully putting yourself in an invincible position. Surely you can understand this. Your posts have been intelligent and well written, and I hope that you simply misunderstood "glitching" rather than support online cheating...

Hope this post helps :)

Laying in a ditch etc... SHOULD be a standard tactic and a smart one and if sopmeone doesn't know about glitching then they shouldn't be accused of cheating. The problem is, most people know about it and look at it as cheating and it's an issue. If I was playing this game for the first time ever online, the first thing I would do is run to a crater for cover. Red Storm is the one to fix this problem.

I see your point but disagree. Cheaters will find these out if they want to cheat. What you are doing here is on one hand good to limit cheating but bad for people like myself who would never cheat/glitch. Personally, well I'm not gonna say here what think of cheaters - suffice to say that I hate it/them.

By not posting that information here leaves us 'Honourable' players blind to what is going on. Having the knowledge would allow us to better spot these glitchers/cheaters. If we all know the glitch then we are better served to get them booted off the server. You could say that I could go in game and find these glitches for myself - but I don't play games to find glitches, it's not in my character. It would be apprecaited if you could email or pm me the full report.

Going back to crater glitching, IF YOU SIT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CRATER IT SHOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM. tHE PROBLEM STEMS FROM CRAWLING UP (Oops scuse caps - to far down the line now to delete and retype) to the edge of the crater where your barrel pokes out but your head is covered.

They must fix this in GR2, cause it's really bad.

I rather have more stupid AI then maps with errors (glitches).

Maybe (for now) make some effects (fire+damage) on those places that glitch. So nobody wants to be there. Still can shoot through them, so doesn't matter much. Bla Bla Bla :P

It does help- I didn't realise that I could see you and not hit you in this instance, while you could see and hit me. I didn't understand the problem was as complex as that. So basically, I would think I was in a good situation that becomes no-win for me. I can see I have a shot, take it, but because of the glitch, I can't hit you. You, on the other hand have just been alerted to my presence and cap me. I was looking at it backwards. Thanks for the clear-up.

I never doubted your intelligence and I certainly don't care about the amount of posts you have on your credit.

I did read my post and I didn't find anything offensive in that one.

It was just very clear that you were missing the point of the discussion simply because you missed a vital link which explains what a glitch is.

If you would have read some of the replies AND followed some links then you would have found this article about glitching.

I respect your opinion and I even doubted myself once to spread that information publicly.

Yes, it would allow you to spot glitchers better when you know where the spots are but after conscidering all the pro's and con's, I decided not to give it out simply because it would lead to massive cheating in a lot of servers.

Those glitches are not so easy to find so I wouldn't worry to much about getting killed by it.

I'm playing GR for 1,5 years now and up to date I have only come across 1 guy that was actually using those glitches (the REAL glitches, not just a crater-glitch).

BTW: I haven't made a report (yet), it's all locked up safely in my head

NOW: about RSE fixing the problem;

The glitch-error is a overal side-effect of the engine GR uses.

That means, to correct the problem they need to (largely) re-program major parts of the GFX-engine and program-core.

RSE and UBI are aware of the problem but it is simply not profitable enough to take that kind of drastic measures.

Afterall, Ghost Recon 2 is in progress and all attention has shifted to that one as that will MAKE money as opposed to Ghost Recon that MADE it's money.

The present succes of Ghost Recon is mostly because of the dedication of the GR-community, not UBI or RSE.

the only way UBI/RSE would be able to fix "glitches" would be to not have any craters, ditches, hills, crests, cars, rocks houses, nothing at all since its possible to hide behind any of these objects.

maybe all maps should be wide open green pastures so people who prefer quake-like tactics over real-life tactics wont complain. :P
