WP33 Posted February 8, 2005 Share Posted February 8, 2005 Update: Well, it showed up yesterday, and here's the story: After unpacking the thing, I noticed the big dent right on top of the case, and immediately called them, telling them the issue. I asked what could be done if the thing ran just fine (I new I'd lose another pile of cash just sending it back to them if I decided to exchange it), and they said they'd send me a new case. Well, I ain't about to yank everything out and reinstall it on my own, as this is likely to both void warranty, and with me doing it, likely to be all bad. Strange thing is the shipping boxes weren't damaged at all, implying this happened at the factory. Well, I yanked out the old PC and started hooking stuff up, now in hindsight realizing the GPU was feeling a bit "loose" when I was plugging the monitor in. Press power... nothing. Black screen. Hmm. Shutdown, unplug monitor, replug, make sure I have juice to everything, restart. Nothing. Switch monitor to the other output, same drill. Nothing. Damn it! Finally start fiddling around with the case, opening it up and looking inside. For some stupid reason the card is not lined up in the PCI E slot. The hell? Plug it in after unscrewing the mounts (this is where it became evident the frame was slight tweaked, while lining up the screws), reassemble, blah blah. Ahhh, now we have visuals. "Please insert system disk." Hmmm. Should they not have installed the OS at the factory? Weird. Okay, XP Pro disc goes in, loads up, then it asks me to install. Drop to black screen momentarily, then BSOD. Seems there isn't enough HD space. (At this point, I just wanted to go drink heavily) <sigh> Okay. What. The. Hell. I try again, maybe a couple times, restarting the PC, making sure nothing weird is plugged in to interfere, etc. Nada. Damn. At this point, I happened to glance into the box some of the miscellany came in and notice several bunches of cords in there, similar to one I saw just flopping around loose in the case. "SATA" the bags say. Hmmm. Open the case back up. Okay, Mr. Cord, let's see if you do what I think you do. Find a similar corresponding fitting on the HD. Plug Mr. Sata into Mr. HD and close it all up again. Power. Ahh, now we're finally working. This all took the better part of two hours. Now, that being said, I did manage to save a couple hundred bucks at the very least, though the case is damaged and I had to waste a couple hours trying to figure stuff out I never should've had to. After all this, I only got them to comp me about 50% of the case price even though the frame is slightly tweaked. The staff is not very helpful and it's hard even understanding them as their English skills are a little challenged. Overall, not a great experience. Whisper, and anyone else thinking about Cyber Power Systems, DO NOT give these people your money. PS: All told though the PC kicks major ass. Too bad I had to deal with such morons to get to this point. If I hadn't already installed all of my stuff and knowing they'd bone me out of shipping costs, this thing would've gone back just due to the lack of customer care and obvious disinterest in servicing an issue. I'll keep it, but I thought it was kind of a slap in the face for them to offer me basically $25-30 to make it better.
