Zebb
I have posted my question here although it applies to both games. No matter what settings i apply i cannot get my games to run any faster than 20-30 fps on average, it does have the odd jump into higher figures but for only a second or two at the most, generally it stays around the low to mid 20's and even down into single figures at times, Gordo helped me aerlier by suggesting some setting changes in the "performance" setup but to no avail, i am running dxdll, but with it turned off i get exactly the same fps just uglier. My basic setup is: OS: Windows XP Pro. SP2 Cpu: AMD Athlon XP2400+ Ram:1024 Mb Graphics Card: Nvidia FX5900 Ultra 256mb Sound: Turtle Beach Santa Cruz/or Plantronics DSP500 usb headphones, depending on what i'm using at the time. All Drivers up to date. My Cpu process is running at 99% availabilty and i have nothing else running in the background, TS makes no difference to the problem, i have checked all my bios settings and they seem to be in order but i suppose i could have missed something in there, it seems that if i have the game settings turned up or down there is only a small variation in my fps as if it is locked at a lower rate ? I have trawled the forums for some answers but havent found anything useful, so i would be grateful for any ideas from any of you knowledgeable guys/gals in here, thanks in advance
Gordo_Viper
What view distance is VBS1 set at for you mate? Under 1000m, or higher..Shoudl go into Options in VBS1 and then Graphics.
Zebb
Iv'e tried it both long range and short range and neither seems to make a lot of difference mate, the same with all the other option/preference settings...
CrowmanUK
Like we talked about before mate check your AGP setttings, I'd set your AGP aperture to 128, I really cant see why its running so slow, my machines only 600mhz faster and I'm getting 30-90 fps even with dxdll running. Make sure you've got all the latest drivers installed, including the motherboard drivers.
thirty
Hi Zebb Based on your hardware you shoould be getting better performance than what you are. Can you post the contents of the following VBS files, this will help me work out why you're getting slow FPS. vbs.cfg ---> found in the 'VBS\' directory UserInfo.cfg ---> found in the 'VBS\Users\Yourname\' directory
Zebb
Thanks Crowie, i did up my AGP to 256 same as my card memory but it didnt help, maybe ill drop it down to 128 and take another look.. @ Thirty, here's my config info, thanks for taking a look, its only the current settings because i have tried pretty much all of them at some time or other with no results.. keyMoveForward[]={17}; keyMoveBack[]={31}; keyTurnLeft[]={30}; keyTurnRight[]={32}; keyMoveUp[]={46}; keyMoveDown[]={57}; keyMoveFastForward[]={65537}; keyMoveSlowForward[]={18}; keyMoveLeft[]={}; keyMoveRight[]={}; keyToggleWeapons[]={131074,41}; keyFire[]={131072}; keyReloadMagazine[]={44}; keyLockTargets[]={131073}; keyLockTarget[]={45}; keyRevealTarget[]={}; keyPrevAction[]={26,131078}; keyNextAction[]={27,131076}; keyAction[]={131077,15}; keyHeadlights[]={38}; keyNightVision[]={47}; keyBinocular[]={48,65539}; keyHandgun[]={21}; keyCompass[]={34}; keyWatch[]={20}; keyMap[]={33}; keyHelp[]={35}; keyTimeInc[]={13}; keyTimeDec[]={12}; keyOptics[]={65538}; keyPersonView[]={156}; keyTacticalView[]={83}; keyZoomIn[]={78,131075}; keyZoomOut[]={74}; keyLookAround[]={56}; keyLookAroundToggle[]={55}; keyLookLeftDown[]={79,262149}; keyLookDown[]={80,262148}; keyLookRightDown[]={81,262147}; keyLookLeft[]={75,262150}; keyLookCenter[]={76}; keyLookRight[]={77,262146}; keyLookLeftUp[]={71,262151}; keyLookUp[]={72,262144}; keyLookRightUp[]={73,262145}; keyPrevChannel[]={51}; keyNextChannel[]={52}; keyChat[]={40}; keyVoiceOverNet[]={58}; keyNetworkStats[]={23}; keyNetworkPlayers[]={25}; keySelectAll[]={}; keyTurbo[]={42,54}; keyWalk[]={}; keyAxisTurn[]={196608}; keyAxisDive[]={196609}; keyAxisRudder[]={196613}; keyAxisThrust[]={196610,196614}; keyAimUp[]={}; keyAimDown[]={}; keyAimLeft[]={}; keyAimRight[]={}; revMouse=0; joystickEnabled=1; mouseButtonsReversed=0; mouseSensitivityX=0.680000; mouseSensitivityY=0.680000; blood=1; version=1; class MainMap { class Compass { inBack=1; position[]={0.026000,0.047000,0.200000}; positionBack[]={0.178000,0.145000,0.500000}; }; class Watch { inBack=1; position[]={0.079000,0.044000,0.210000}; positionBack[]={0.238000,0.158000,0.525000}; }; class WalkieTalkie { inBack=1; position[]={0.094000,-0.043000,0.250000}; positionBack[]={0.280000,-0.155000,0.625000}; }; class Notepad { inBack=0; position[]={-0.114000,-0.010300,0.320000}; positionBack[]={-0.325000,0.197000,0.800000}; }; class Warrant { inBack=1; position[]={0.073000,-0.025000,0.400000}; positionBack[]={0.368000,0.193000,1.000000}; }; class GPS { inBack=0; position[]={0.000000,0.000000,0.450000}; positionBack[]={0.000000,0.000000,1.125000}; }; }; frameRate=30.000000; visualQuality=0.015361; objectShadows=0; vehicleShadows=0; cloudlets=0; viewDistance=1577.794678; terrainGrid=12.500000; volumeCD=0.000000; volumeFX=10.000000; volumeSpeech=9.359988; singleVoice=1; enableEAX=0; enableHW=0; gamma=1.638472; brightness=1.375004; multitexturing=1; useWBuffer=0; fovTop=0.750000; fovLeft=1.000000; uiTopLeftX=0.000000; uiTopLeftY=0.000000; uiBottomRightX=1.000000; uiBottomRightY=1.000000; useSockets=0; browsingSource="LAN"; class Filter { serverName=""; missionName=""; maxPing=0; minPlayers=0; maxPlayers=0; fullServers=1; passwordedServers=1; }; remoteIPAddress= remotePort=2302; class Identity { face="PRACamoFace4"; glasses="None"; speaker="Dan"; pitch=0.900000; squad= }; cadetMode=0; cadetModeMP=0; diffArmor[]={1,0}; diffFriendlyTag[]={1,0}; diffEnemyTag[]={0,0}; diffHUD[]={1,0}; diffAutoSpot[]={1,0}; diffMap[]={1,0}; diffWeaponCursor[]={1,1}; diffAutoGuideAT[]={1,0}; diffClockIndicator[]={1,1}; diff3rdPersonView[]={1,1}; diffTracers[]={1,1}; diffUltraAI[]={0,0}; showTitles=1; showRadio=1;
thirty
Starting with the VBS.cfg this is a copy of mine. I suggest you change it to what i have here for the lines marked <===== With the 3D and CPU benchmark your computer will be penalised if you use an AMD processor, generally doesnt matter so you don't need to change the setting Make sure it is showing the correct ram at 'Total_Memory' otherwise it will not allocate files to ram properly and will start using the windows paging file prematurely. The lines marked <********* can have a dramatic impact on the performance, as these are the quality of textures that show ingame. Suggest you set these low i.e 256. Set your resolution to 1024x768 Product="VBS1"; Language="English"; HW_Type="Direct3D HW T&L"; Adapter=0; 3D_Performance="10000"; CPU_Benchmark=10000; Resolution_W="1600"; Resolution_H="1200"; Resolution_Bpp="32"; LOD=0.000005; <===== Limit_LOD=0.000005; <===== Shadows_LOD=0.000005; <===== MaxObjects=256; <===== Cockpit_Textures=1024; <********* Landscape_Textures=1024; <********* Object_Textures=1024; <********* Animated_Textures=1024; <********* Textures_Drop_Down=0; <===== Texture_Heap="0"; <===== File_Heap="0"; <===== Total_Memory="2048"; MaxLights=32; Light_Explo=1; Light_Missile=1; Light_Static=1; Frame_Rate_Pref=500; <===== Quality_Pref=500; <===== refresh=75; In the userinfo.cfg suggets you make the following changes frameRate=30.000000; visualQuality=0.000005; objectShadows=1; vehicleShadows=1; cloudlets=1; viewDistance=1200; terrainGrid=12.500000;
Zebb
Thanks for the feedback Thirty, i'll give that a shot.. Edit: I tried to lower my settings and here is where it gets odd, it actually make my game run worse with lower settings than on the "normal" ones, i have tried lowering everything before and running it but it just makes it unplayable.. One thing i forgot to add is that i have just added a second HD (160Gb) as a slave to my original HD (60GB) thats where my game is installed and im beginning to wonder if there is an issue somewhere in that setup, thanks again for the help Thirty i'm sure i will use at least some of those settings once i get to the bottom of the whatever the main problem is ? Zebb
After some fiddling around i have got my fps up by approx 10 more than before so they are now running around 20-30 dropping to teens at times and up to 80-90 at others, i guess thats about as good as i will get it at the moment since reducing the settings any lower just makes the problem worse rather than better strangely enough. I was wondering whether people are using dcxdl,l since i have it running at the moment, and what settings you have found give you the best look without getting a performance hit, thanks for all the help... Whisper_44
Zebb, I'm using the dxdll, and in the end I think it's about personal preference, there are quite a few changes you can make, most of them can actually be turned on/off in game, that helped me sort out what worked and what didn't. I'll post some screens o my settings this evening if I can, in the mean time if you check the VBS1-Screenshots thread one of the guys posted their dxdll settings a while back, there is also a whole thread over at the resources site. As for overall performance the only thing I have done that greatly affected my performance is the view distance, I never really messed with anything else. I set it at 5000 just for giggles, and it took me 10 mintues to change it back, my mouse was warping so bad Sunrise My System: * Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.26GHz * 533 MHz front side bus * 512k processor cache * 1024MB DDR memory * Intel RAID-ready motherboard * 80GB hard drive capacity * Radeon 9700Pro 128MB DDR (Cat 4.12 Drivers)
Parabellum
I've noticed that if I activate DXDLL, my framerate is cut in half. As nice as it looks, I've been turning it off lately, so that I can get the higher frame rates.
CrowmanUK
With DXDLL on all I activate is postprocessing, reflections really hits the framerates especially when you get near water, looks great but its just not playable, I've messed about with the viewdistance and I like 1500m but it resets to the default of 800 I think when you're in multiplayer, the island you're playing on will make a difference too, high fps on desert island but low on Nogova. Keep tatting mate
Whisper_44
I guess I really never noticed it becoming uplayable when running the dxdll, the only thing that notciably changed my playability was the view distance. I'll try and run some benchmarks when I get home...this has me curious
2nd Ranger
I recently turned everything off except the hard light/saturation stuff, with minimal performance hit. You don't get the full impact of having it all on, but it gives you a slightly nicer look without the dragging frames.
CrowmanUK
Give it a try Whisper, stick it on a foresty bit or fly a chopper low over water and turn on reflections and watch the framerate drop like a stone, I like the viewdistance up a bit over the standard setting as it makes sniping a bit more of a challenge and if you're flying you can see a lot further ahead too. Has anyone made a custom mission with a high viewdistance and played it in multiplayer, I'm 99% sure it resets back to the default setting for multiplayer. Whisper_44
I know there is a script available for MP, that syncs the viewdistances for all machines attached, Viper used it in the Merc's mission, last night Gordo, Mac & Myself were sync'd at 2000, I typically run my viewdistance at 2500. I belive you about the frame drop, I guess I have never had situations like you described occur to me while I am playing. I wll trun off the reflections though, as I am not too likely to stand over water and admire the view..usually I am too busy ducking OPFOR Bullets.. CrowmanUK
Would you know if the setviewdistance command in the init line would set everybodys viewdistance in VBS the same as it does in OFP?

CrowmanUK
Installed it and got it running and was quite pleased with the framerates but I formatted the pc and installed again and it almost doubled the framerates, I'm now getting 20-70 fps, I even got 50fps when I was standing in water with the dxdll on, how the hell they managed to get it running better I havent a clue but I aint half happy about it. muki
Since you are talking about graphic and stuff here I think my replay is in correct forum. I would really want to buy this game to but I couldn't find anything about PC preformance that are needed to play it. I would like to be sure that the game will work with no lag couse it is tooooo expensive to buy it and throw it away. If anyone could tell me what is the minimum performance of PC for the game PLZ ! Also I was checking about addons and did I see it wrong or the graphic is getting better with some addons (so maybe I will need a better PC later )? And if I am asking all this questions (this is not the forum for this question but anyway) does anyone knows how many players are playing the game in EU. I am a big fun of playing realistic coop with others so it is important for me to know...after all we are talking about great sum of money that can be trrowen away. (But if it is so good as you guys are talking I will buy it anyway maybe just a core!) Thanks in advance for any replay !

Dunno if it runs better than OFP. I've a P4 2.8Ghz, Ti4200, 512Mb Ram, and it runs better than flashpoint did. If Sart or someone else with a comparable system can post their system specs you could perhaps take that as a baseline. What are your specs just now?
