Should moving vehicls be used in GR2

Y'know - I've been a Fan of the RSE Ground Based Platforms for so long I've forgotten how much I love to Fly in Helos and Deploy out of 'em.

My Point...

I recently tried the "Delta Force - BlackHawk Down" Demo and I found out that It absolutely Smoked...

Flying in over the Mog baggin' Habr Gidr Militia | Sittin' side-saddle on the BuckBoard | On a Little Bird as The Miiltia assaults the U.N. Compound.

Now Give Me more of that in "GR2", and I'll be a Happy Camper.

There has been a Great need in My eyes for a Title that combines the Best of a FlightSIM with the best of a TACSIM.

Specops Teams more often than not INSERT VIA Helos, HALO, HAHO or by Sea. The addition of AirMobility or Vehicle manipulation to a Platform such as "GR" would only be a Bonus - IMO.

Put it this way...

If a TACSIM Title ever comes along with the Ability to have Ground Forces on the Ground like in "GR", and AirCraft in the Air supporting those Troops like Aircraft in "MSFS" ( "CFS" - But w/ current AirCraft ) - Then |S.O.T.O|'s Time playing RSE Games would lessen a Great Deal as We'd move to a Title such as that in a Heatbeat ( Thats as long as it was done well ).

Now hows that for a Wish ? ? ?

Sincerely,

Good post. The drawback as I see it is that the vehicles will become a sideshow and will detract from the immersion that GR offers.

But the setup as you describe seems like it'd be optimal. Not sure how to pull it off without unbalancing the air aspect (as in BF1942 where a great pilot renders armor and infantry irrelevant) though.

IMO, they should be put in, but with moderation. Yeah, make them destructable/damagable (is that a real word?) but have them repairable too, only to a certian extent. Also, think of this: if the games only have a certian spawn limit, say one, and a few of them are in a helo and it gets shot down, that's a few less guys to worry about. (As long as there's AA weapons available). Or, you could have the option to have helos/ground vehicles to be included or not in a match. A numerical and/or time limit on air strikes wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Vehicles should only really be used if the maps are big enough to handle it. The good thing about Flashpoint having vehicles was that the maps were frickin' huge, like 100km x 100km. That's the only need you have for driveable jeeps and trucks; to traverse distances like that. So if the maps in GR2 are going to be roughly the same size (or even twice the size), then it wouldn't really be worth having vehicles.

On top of that, as others have said, it would go against what GR stood for (although, it isn't as if RSE haven't done that enough already). I'm all for helicopter insertions and the like, but unless you feel that you NEED to use a vehicle to get somewhere, it's little more than a showpiece.

As for the subject of driving tanks and flying helicopters... This has been brought up in many games before (DF: BHD included). Bottom line is that a special forces soldier probably wouldn't know how to use such vehicles.

Actually most US spec ops have medics within the teams. Matter of factly SF Teams medic carries the good stuff like Morphine

All special forces soldiers have a basic knowledge of medical matters anyway. It's SOP for most units.

i reckion if people want to drive vehicles in-game then they (RSE/ Ubi) should make it so those people can mod it how they like. :rocky:

I agree. This 'sequel' is shaping up to be GTA in green anyway so there might as well be a few car chases

I want to see bigger maps. Maybe 1 or 2 square miles.

I want to see vehicles. But also an option to turn them off just like in GR we had an option screen where we can configure game type etc.

Also maybe some helicopter insertions.

Stinger missiles.

Mines.

RPG's.

PLaceable Machine Guns.

Destructable terrain.

And buildings that are actual buildings and you can enter. Not just 1 out of 10000 are real.

After playing Chrome I definately have to say no to vehicles  Chrome made me wonder if I really should bother at all anymore with FPS games, and that while Doom III is luring around the corner. Oh, and lets not forget about Half Life 2.

I'm just too afraid that adding vehicles will turn the game into some arcadish shoot 'm upper. Most vehicles in games had horrible handling and physics and you could just tell by the way it was moving. tricky to say the least.

u obviously dont use any GR mods do u, cos many have helicopter insutions. Jack57 perfected the use of a placed bomb the player detonates. RPGs are widly used. Old news.

But mnay of you guys are saying, you know, SF sneak around no vechiles etc, but speak to hatchet force, the majority of his photos we have scene have been with vehicles, they play an integral part in special forces style combat.

Driving Vehicles in GR is a definate No no :wall: & I'm sure BT has confirmed that driving them wasn't an option which I'm hugely happy about. Otherwise MP turns to crap as everyone wizzezz about running everthing over & shooting wildlyetc... Joint Ops anybody???

Vehicle interaction if done properly woulld be great. In GR 1 there were a few missions where you had to escort vehicles & I feel it would have been better if you could have issued commands to them like "Hold here till I give the Clear signal", "Take that route" "find cover", "Fire at X,Y or Z" etc. that way you wouldn't get the kiddies thinking there playing Gran turisimo with rockets but You have the tactical flexability that would add another dimension.

as for Multiplayer You could play games like assasination but instead of a general you could take out a humvee or tank etc. It would be good & hold true to GR BUT ONLY IF THE VEHICLES ARE NOT DRIVABLE!!!!! :o=

If the vehicles become driveable GR would become a crock of pooh!!!

If you really want drivable vehicles go & play Joint Ops.
