GR2 PC Wishlist

Ghost Recon 2 on the PC should feel like a Special Forces, tactical war-game. It should not be like an action shooter, chock full of "hero" characters, Hollywood-style voice acting and weapons you have to unlock (SF teams would normally have access to whatever they need). GR really set itself apart from the other games out there because it did some very unique and different things when it was released, and that's exactly why you still have people playing it even today.

Keep the same feel from the original, that's my biggest suggestion. You have something REALLY GOOD going with the GR series. Don't fix what ain't broke!

At the same time, there's some stuff the original lacked that I feel should have been there from the start. And much to my dismay I see a lot of it is not included in GR2 Xbox. So....

1) I want to be able to build an M4 specifically for the mission I am being tasked with. Think optics gear and underbarrel attachments. DO NOT have options for magazine types. C-Mags will only get abused. Even if some of the attachments are just aesthetic (like scopes maybe), it would be still be nice to have. Some people, especially in MP, like to be unique and this would allow them that option.

The current style is annoying because it doesn't give us any choice, and that's very unrealistic especially for SF. That kind of thing I'd expect of an action shooter like Half-Life or CS, not a true tactical shooter. America's Army has been giving people the option to customize their M4's for a long time, and I think it would be a very positive change for the GR series if RSE added this for the PC version.

2) Suppressors should be able to be taken off and put back on in-game, like in America's Army and (ugh!) Counter-Strike. EVERY M4 should come with a suppressor, it shouldn't even be something we have to choose.

3) Bipods. Bipods should be deployable on walls and boxes too, not just the ground. Also, don't make the system stupid like in AA where you have to undeploy the bipod before you can get up again. I've seen plenty of infantrymen carrying around M-249s with the bipod down.

In a war-game like GR2, not having bipods on the PC version would be totally UNSAT. At the very least, have the code there so we can mod it in ourselves later.

4) Allow us COMPLETE customization of our multiplayer characters. I want to be able to pick what kind of headgear I want (helmet, boonie, patrolcap, bandana, headband, no headgear, and so forth), whether I am wearing longsleeves or shortsleeves (or sleeveless maybe?), skincolor, face, in-game voice, and perhaps even have options for things like sunglasses, backpacks and radios.

5) Optional medics for co-op.

6) IGOR.

7) Bring back at least one of the classic GR maps, but make sure it isn't one of those tiny MP maps -- should be big, like Vilnius, not small like Docks. Those small maps are not nearly as useful for good scripting.

8) Give us at least one huge, all Wilderness map with no discernable landmarks. Think DP04 from Desert Siege but even bigger (I'd prefer twice as big), without the wood forts and a longer view distance. This would be great for scripting certain kinds of co-op missions. The terrain should also remain very basic and uncomplicated.

9) Allow us to change the platoon color in co-op. I hate being forced to do blue only. This leads to a lot of headaches if I want to change uniforms.

10) A GUI that works in a resolution of at least 1024x768. It should also be very basic, very simple, and very easy to navigate. Fancy stuff is unnecessary. Looks cool the first time, after that it just gets in the way.

11) Get rid of the screaming dude on the box. It not only looks like a pretty bad CGI render, it just looks downright silly. The original GR1 PC boxart was very badass and captured the feel of the game very well.

12) I'm sure this is way out of the question because it doesn't sound like GR maps are 100% dynamically lit, but how about a day/night system? If you spend six hours on a map, the sun (and thus the light and shadows) should be six hours ahead.

This would be very slick for night missions where you may be operating just an hour or two before dawn. It would certainly add to the suspense and tension.

13) Blood and the ability to maim. A .50 cal should take someone's arm off. If I hit them in the head, they shouldn't have a head anymore. Blood pooling on the ground would also add to the effect, perhaps with the victim screaming in pain and agony. Also, exit wounds from lesser-weapons such as the 7.62mm would be nice. This would be a good step up from the red splotches we saw in GR1, although those should remain for the smaller-caliber arms like the M4 and M8 which wouldn't be causing massive amounts of damage.

Basically, it's really hard for me to place myself in a war-sim when I see someone get hit with a .50 cal round and just slump over. I know some people have issues with gore, but you can always turn it off if you don't want to see it.

14) Forgot to mention, I'd love to see the ability to dynamically assign fireteams during missions, and the ability to have up to 8 men in SP. Give me up to four fireteams this time, with the ability to put 4 men per team if I so choose. Allow me to switch between operators during missions. Don't force me to use hero characters, I want the old system from GR1.

15) Limping.

My Ghost Recon II wish list continued:

Get rid of the fake body armor, please!

In the [Ghost Recon] I unloaded 300 rounds from an MP-5 into an enemy and it didn't kill him.

Also, I hope the bug where you can see hostiles through walls has been fixed. You can see the barrel of a hostile's rifle through a wall and sometimes you can see the entire guy.

A couple things I've wished for in GR:

- in the Multiplayer briefing for coop missions - make it possible to do some mission planning visually on the map so that your team can see your angle of attack and you can talk strategy. Call it a mission planning phase where you all see a map, you can place waypoints and use different color lines for each fireteam.

- Also build in voice communication capabilities. It would be so much simpler than having to install separate software that you online partner may or may not have. If it's built in, it would be so simple. You'd have to think through channels for each team, but I think that could be done.

-Complete Mod support with released tools, pdf guides, plugins, and an upgraded Igor

-I want to select the characters I want and kit them as I want (6 man squad is not enough), switch between them in game as I see fit and order them via waypoints to specific locations on the map

-I want to play a tactical war simulation, not a scripted shooter. The more choices and flexibility, the better. Missions should be non-linear!

-The ability to engage targets at long distance. In the original you rarely saw targets past 150m, let alone engage them past 100.

-Easier control of grenade throws, it was hard to place them in the first

-Ability to recover weapons and ammunition from team mates or enemies

Here is 2 i didn't see mentioned so i will

1st KEEP THE LOBBY (great way for people to join and converse vefore entering the game

2nd Make enemy ai respond to silenced weapons. I hate playing co-op and watching someone with a socom silenced mopping up because the ai doesn't move or react when shot with silenced except for there death.

I think everyone else covered the rest. Oh and keep the command map also, but add grids stock.

Do not add a built in voice communication software package unless UBI intends to buy TeamSpeak2 and use their proven technology. If it does not meet TeamSpeak2 standards, most likely no one will use it.

Keep the new 4 "person" squad size, but also keep the teams consisting of 3 squads as in GR1 (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie).

For multiplayer, add the ability to have 4 or more teams. Each team consisting of three 4 "person" squads.

Allow newly joining players to select kits while waiting for the current mission to end. Do the same for "dead" players waiting for the next mission.

Give players more character spaces for their game names.

I agree with just about all of what [Parabellum's] post said [and want to add the following]:

- Make necessary changes to ensure that GR2 is able to take advantage of the PC's increased processing power and software advantages; full DX9 support

1. How about Character Creation? Being able to create your own character for online playing. Being able to customize hair, face, camo, body size, height, etc...

2. Make the bullet an object!!! NOT A CODE! The one biggest mistake with Ravenshield was the fact that bullets were coded. The network had too much of a factor in how fast you got shots off, etc... If the bullet is an object, Then you don't have to worry about lag as much.

3. How about 32 person servers? With the option for 4 teams of 8? This could lead to some very fun MP play similar to Battlefield 1942, but with better physics, better graphics, and an even more intense play!

4. PUNKBUSTER IS A MUST!!!! Have the game released WITH Punkbuster!

1) GR2 for the Xbox has a lot of scripting involved with the AI that makes the enemy appear when you cross a certain point.

I would rather see the majority of enemies (including tanks and jeeps) being scripted to guard an area by patrolling it. Some location scripting is ok but have the majority (like 80%) react to only gunfire and sight.

It would also be nice to have these patrols change paths when the map is restarted to make you unaware of exactly where the enemy will be.

When the AI is scripted to just appear when you cross a point it becomes a game of repetition and memorization instead of stealthy combat tactics.

2) Also, The missions "Battle" and "Hospital Camp," where the enemy AI just comes running at your location the entire mission, does not feel like GR and would be greatly appreciated if similar missions are left out of the PC version.

Thanks!

where are all the good 1st person shootumup games?

cs-s - same games as cs just better graphics nothing new boring

sof2 - good movement, good speed, horrible hit boxes and no support

doom3 - to fake not real

cod - to old fashion, slow, lame, horrible hitboxes, and too random

keys to a winning muilyplayer game as followed

#1. Movement is key... has to feel natural but also limited to buttons. jump/climb, strafe left/right, forward/backwords, run/walk or set to always run with a walk button, peak left/right, cruch or duck.. no laying on the ground just makes people look like dead bodies.. to confusing in matches or lan events.

#2 Graphics have to look sharp and real.. rogue spear always came up short on this one. but still has to run smooth on a decent machine.

#3 hitboxes ; good muilplayer games has to have good hitboxes with good netcode.. your bullets hit the walls and players where you see them.. no getting killed behind a wall, if you can see his head you can hit it... if you can't see his head you can't hit it.. only can shoot the parts of the body you can see. leg, arm, foot can all be hit and different parts do more damage then others.

#4 lans normaly support games that are more based on skillz doom, cod, cs-s, and cs are some of the biggest lan games.. CPL, quakecon and such with cash prizes.. The reason be is because good game play, with no one killing people in tanks trucks, cars or using cheap weason like missile launchers... things that take away skill.... don't get me wrong single player should have these.. muilyplayer should not. unless it's a coop type of game..

#5 Most leagues www.caleague.com or TWL stick to the sametype of team size.. 5 vs 5... reason be is you can hold more teams constant lans with the same guys for cash prizes and more teams.. check out "cal = caleauge" and how many active teams they have for cs, cod and such. This does not mean ateam can't carry 40 players but only 5 of them can play in the match when it is setup...

final note

if you took sof3 speed, movement + doom3 hitboxes, + cs-s graphics and netcode = a sweet game + ghost recon/rogue spear 5 different types of muilplayer games = something that everyone could really like.

things that a player could change to adjust or customize on their side

crosshair size, shape and color.. Ex. box, dot, green, blue and such

remap keys of crouse

crosshair grow and shrink.. like if you hold the trigger down the gun is not that

accurate and the cross would grow.. this should be allowed to be turned on and off.

also mouse sen if i pull out my normal gun i want a slow mouse but if im using a secondary gun i want a faster mouse speed... people from quake 3 engine know all about making configs that would allow this.

punkbuster is a must... make it an option that can be dissabled.. that way people who like to do mods or cheat can do so freely.. as for lans, leagues, and tournys with crash prizes itz a must.

wanted:

more options. ( possibly on the dedicated server ):

in the StonEd mod scripts and gametypes where you can override the server options and control stuff like:

respawns: yes/no/individual/infinite

time limit: infinite/set

ai backup: allow or not

character switching!: allow or not

etc.

stuff like that

1. Option to update the game "in game"

2. They wear the new ACU (Army Combat Uniform)

3. Strykers

4. Joint operation with other units SEALS, Delta, Force Recon

5. Real Green Beret missions like working with guerillas

6. Use of guerilla weapons

7. Better vehicle behavior/animations of firing

8. No "not working guns" in vehicles (eg. black hawk does not shoot, damn it)

Agreed. Although, I really liked the hostpital camp mission. It just reminded me of so many of the Vietnam fights where an SF team at a camp of some kind would be assaulted by hundreds, maybe thousands, of enemies and I just found it really cool. :D Hopefully the PC version will have even more bad guys charging up the hill at you. :D!!!

This isn't a discussion thread I will be removing this post shortly.

~NYR

Why? I was stating that I wish for the same things he said except for the removal of those 2 missions and gave my reason for not wanting them gone...I dont see what's wrong with that, but if you want to get rid of my post, I cant stop you.

Anyway, I have a bunch of little wishes for this game, but the main 3 that I HAVE to have if this game is gonna be any good for me are:

1) improved AI

2) indoor enviroments/CQB

3) putting in the old command map ordering as well as the current commands (the new ones are good for in the middle of a firefight, but they really limit you anywhere else, IMO.).

Those are the 3 biggies, other things I'd like to see would be the ability to

4) have more than 4 guys, and

5) be able to choose which people come with and what they carry.

Oh, and 4ceReconSniper, they already have the Strikers in GR2, they come pick you up at the end of this one mission. I could also swear I saw the Blackhawk firing, dont know if it hit anything b/c I was too busy making a mad dash for the chopper, but it does shoot.

I think what would be sweet for us all is some type of command map or view of the game we have joined online through UBI or through Ghost Recon 2. Waiting 10 mintues stairing at a group of names isn't intense enough for my short attention span.

Ideally the observer view would be best. People joining could watch the action while we're waiting for the current game to end.

If the Observer view isn't practical then a command map inwhich we can cycle through player and see team players (point) move through and interact during the game.

A mission editor, and a way to mod the health.

That's all we need, really.

Thanks guys- I don't feel the need to add anything just adding my name to the list who wonder where the good bits of the original went in favour of the more linear arcade style.

Don't get too hooked on suppressed weapons though as they are not really that good in reality.

Come on UBI get the PC version right please?
