Rocky
I am breaking my own rules, don't have time right now to resize this pic, but wanted to get it out... A Pipe Major from the Black Watch helped the US Marine Corps celebrate their 229th birthday on 10 November; the USMC takes pride in marking the occasion even when deployed on combat operations

firefly2442
Sorry to sound dumb but who are the "black watch"? Is this a British commando group? Or just a local attachment where you live?
Dick Splash
Sorry to sound dumb but who are the "black watch"? Is this a British commando group? Or just a local attachment where you live? ← Yes ff, they're a hardcore Scottish SF unit. Mainly operating at night, they'll HALO in wearing kilts, tab to the enemy location dragging their sporans behind them, and then fire up the bagpipes. The enemy doesn't know what hit 'em and they usually surrender on the spot. Apart from that, very little is actually known about the unit DS

CtheHammer
I don't think it is on the USMC page, but there is a video for this birthday that has the Commandant and the Seargent Major giving a birthday adress together, and they tell the story of a Marine Lance Corporal serving in Iraq that is incredibly moving. Basically this Lance Cpl. is involved in a firefight when he is wounded by a grenade. Turning down medical attention, he continues to lead the men in his squad or fireteam until he finally passes out from blood-loss. After being transported to Germany he manages to convince doctors there to release them and then he manages to get somebody to give him a pair of cammies, and finally talks his way onto an Air Force cargo aircraft heading back to Iraq. Before he leaves though he makes a phone call to his wife back in the States and tells her something to the effect of "Honey, I'm sorry, but I won't be coming home from this, I have to go back because my Marines are out there fighting still and I have to be with them." God bless the Marines and the Marine Corps. HOORAH! and Semper Fi C
Dick Splash
Before he leaves though he makes a phone call to his wife back in the States and tells her something to the effect of "Honey, I'm sorry, but I won't be coming home from this, I have to go back because my Marines are out there fighting still and I have to be with them."............← Hmmmmm....a powerful story C, but.....I dunno.......if I was his wife, I'd be well 'urinated' off by my husbands purely irresponsible and selfish attitude and behaviour........especially if I had children!!! Indeed, if it was my son, I would tell him that I understand how he feels, but stress that he's 'done his bit' for now, and he should come home and get fit again!!!
