There should be more poll options here. Bought GR when it was released and there was no mods at that time. Bought it cuz i readed a review in some magazine and just knew this is my type of game. Didnt even tried demo lol.

Ditto to that, except I lived and breathed the Demo..until the full version was released

GR was released at the same time I bought my laptop and got my internet connection. After I bought those two I was walking in the shop and thinking if I would like some game to go with it, my eyes got cought by a box............guess what game was in that box :D

It was also the only game I bought for at least 1 year after that day.

My laptop will be replaced soon, I bought a normal desktop computer 6 months ago (the second desktop) but GR has never been and will never be replaced

A friend of mine who doesn't play games gave me some demo discs and one of them had GR on it. I was new to PC's and PC games so I had never heard of it. Installed it on my PC and was hooked and must have played it 30 or more times. Couldn't find the game anywhere near where I live so I ended up finding a copy about 90 miles away. It was worth the drive and worth the $44.95 I paid for it. :P Wish I could say that for some of the other games I have. :(

I spent my time playing FPS arcade games like SOF or Star Trek EF. They were fun but the unrealism was nagging me a bit. I once got shot 190+ times in a single mission... and I still finished the mission!

But then I was a fan of Tom Clancy so I heard of a realistic tactical shooter he came up with called Rainbow6. No power ups. No medic kits. Not armour. One shot - it's game over.

So I went to the store and... they didn't have it. The game was over two years old. I did find GR, though, so rather than to go home empty handed, I bought GR.

I felt a little diasappointed and stupid too. You know, go to the store for something, then come back with something else.

But woah! I haven't stopped playing the game. Never bought another FPS since then.

I bought Ghost Recon because when it came out, I was still an avid Rogue Spear player and modder. I was looking for 'the next thing', and Ghost Recon was it. I played the demo once and I was hooked. I started modding Ghost Recon because it was new, and I saw a great opportunity to make a name for myself.

i was on some game site looking for some info on this game i was playing for PS2 called armored core, when i noticed a link for the GR demo. i never played any PC games pior and i thought it was cool that you could DL games to try before you bought them so i did it. i knew after i droped that first tango and heard that slow "gooood bye" that i was playing the coolest game ever.

Before to buy GR I never bought any single game, I was completing out, and, of course, I never heard of R6 or RSE.

I was leaving for Brazil (after a long period in Eritrea) and, walking in a megastore, I saw the GR Collectors pack. I bought it simply because there was Desert Siege included set in Eritrea.

I agree that there needs to be more choices in the poll

I bought GR for the following reasons:

- I really enjoyed the Rainbow series games made by RSE, and GR was the RSE's real successor to Rogue Spear

- I bought GR and the expansion packs primarily to play through the single player campaign. Multiplayer and mods were just icing on the cake and extended the life of the game.

- The GR demo immediately sold me on buying the full game.

I was walking through a large department store when I saw GR Complete for $50 (new release games cost $100 here). I couldn't afford a new game at the time, so I purchased GR Complete instead.

I figured with GR and the 2 expansion packs I would get more than my monies worth, since the store had the IT expansion stand-alone for $45.

I wasn't wrong. :D

I played the demo at a friends house one night, after sussing the keys out really got into it.Downloaded the demo and played the castle map for about 4 months on and off in both single and multiplayer. Was hooked from the start.

Loved it graphics (even then on my old 16mb graphics card) and its perspective, always hated those DOOM/Quake style games. The fact you could sneak about and hide and pop your enemy without them knowing where you were, was a great feeling.

Bought GR and the add on's, and play purely multiplayer now, coop, team v team, solo.So much better playing with and against real people, who do things real people would do, a real battle of wits.

The modability of this game has kept me at the keyboard, and kept this game alive, but it's limitations are showing its age.Playabilty has kept this game alive as well as its ability to expand through mods.

If GR2 has what GR has and evolved in the right way then we should have a certain winner!!

The mods were the major reason I bought GR, I mean, I wanted it from the second I first saw it, I was just floored by the screenshots and had loved playing R6, previously, but I didn't have a computer that could run GR when it first came out. :( And so, I just forgot about the game. Then, in mid-02, I got a new rig that could easily handle GR, and I saw all the kickass mods out there, as well as the then new Island Thunder expansion coming and was like, "I definitely have to buy this game, now!" That afternoon I went down to Comp USA and bought the GR/DS double pack and then a couple months later IT, and the rest is history. :D

I was completely new to computers when I bought GR. Bought it pretty much due to the Tom Clancy name. Had no idea what mods were.

I was blown away! The three team system and ability to order the teams through the command map was ingenious. I fell in love with it right away. Needless to say my wife hated it. Had to temper my obsession.

One and a half years later, still play when I can. Love the new mods when they come out. I've even tried to do some photoshop work on my own.

One thing that keeps the game fresh is the community of people who do the mods and make them available for the rest of us to use. And its all for free. Could you imagine the money we'd all would have spent if we had to pay for the material in these great mods. Hundreds. Everyone here are good guys (and ladies). Thanks for the entertainment and enjoyment.
