Is Ghost Recon compatible with my computer?

I am new to computer games and I was wondering if Ghost Recon Gold Edition which has: Ghost Recon, Desert Siege, and Island Thunder would be compatible with my computer? The requirements on the game say: windows (9x/Me/2000/XP), Pentium 2 with 450 MHz processor, 128 MB of RAM, 16MB Direct X 8.0 compatible 3D card, and DirectX compatible sound card. My computer has: XP Pro, Intel Pentium 3 with 860 MHz, 126MB of RAM, and DirectX 9.0. In a couple of weeks I will increase the RAM from 126 MB to 512 MB, I was also considering on buying a graphics but I do not know anything about them, I heard the make games look better and move faster. What would be a good graphics card for me at a reasonable price?

The info you supplies has a couple missing elements: You need to find out what kind of video chip and sound chip are in your system. You can do this by going to Start -> Run -> type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) and press enter.

Once the DirectX diagnostic dialog box comes up, click the button at the bottom that says "Save All information". Your system info will be saved in a file called "dxdiag.txt" and you can post the info here if you can't tell what your video/sound chip are.

One other thing is open up the case and see if you have an AGP slot, it will look like this (click the pic for a larger version):

If you have one, you can install a newer video card up to a GF FX 5700 or an ATi 9600.

You should also have a spare PCI slot you can add a sound card into. The Audigy 2 ZS is a great sound card and can be had for less than $100 through NewEgg.com.

You may be able to run GR on the integrated graphics if you get just the sound card, but it will be hit or miss in my opinion.

You may want to consider getting (building would be even better) a new PC. That one is 4 years old and very obsolete really.

Let us know what you have an AGP slot first though.

That computer won't have an AGP slot. I know the configuration unfortunately well.

My significant otherr's computer has the same onboard video chip, and during a bit of downtime on my box, I installed GR/DS/IT on it. It ran, a little ugly, but it ran. Mind you, her computer had a half gig of RAM, so that helped quite a bit.

@hoobastank: Will GR work? Yes. Well? Not until you significantly increase the amount of RAM you have installed. XP alone barely runs with 128megs of RAM, nevermind playing games with an onboard video chip. I'd strongly recommend you upgrade to a minimum of 512megs of RAM. Just my opinion, but it's based on a bit of experience.

Well, I check and the computer for the "AGP" slot and "Dannik" was correct the mother board does not have an "AGP" slot. So I decided to increase the RAM from 126 to 512 and leave the computer as is. I also decide to probably buy a gaming computer, which will set me back a couple of dollars but I was also wondering if I could just built my computer which would probably cost less. The only problem with building a computer is I don't really know anything. Is their wesite that shows you how to build a computer? Or at least a website that shows you where to purchase affordable materials?

First of all, you should upgrade your RAM to at least 256MB if you are running WinXP. The reason is that WinXP takes up ~150MB of RAM, and you only have 128MB right now! So that mean your system is constantly using space on your hard drive (virtual cache) just to run the operating system which slows things down significantly. If you try to play a game on top of WinXP with just 128MB RAM, it would be expected that things would crawl ...

Note that integrated video shares system RAM, and currently your onboard Intel graphics chip is only using 4MB of your system RAM. You may be able to go into your computer's BIOS and increase the amount of RAM that your onboard video uses to at least 16MB for GR.

I still recommend adding the sound card as it also as the integrated one will use up CPU cycles too. The game will run better with it (not to mention sound better too).
