Gordo_Viper 0
This goes out to those who actually own VBS1... -Is VBS1 a stand alone game? Does it require OFP? Yes it's stand alone- OFP is used to run bull dozer though for model making -Does it come with single player missions? The core does- basically only core units are used. Most missions are user made and there are a lot of quality missions out there- I have about 60+ missions on my system now -Is there a good size online community? it's not biggest community but its strong and mature- the amount of modders, scripters from OFP and GR that have it is huge -Can you create missions using the mission editor? yes it has a similar mission editor to OFP but with more functions in scipting -How happy were you with your purchase? Very, put it this way I have GR, RVS, call of duty, H & D 2, Lock On, AA, IGI2, Splinter Cell u name it and I have not played anyhting else since I got VBS1, know a few others like me as well Thanks ←
Parabellum 12
I enjoy VBS1 so much that I've uninstalled every FPS I had on my system, including Ghost Recon, America's Army, DF: BHD, and Half Life. Even other games like Vice City and Mafia (I never played the missions in those games, just drove around, which was fun) are gone. Modding and addon-making for VBS1 are very satisfying as well. I seriously doubt that I will buy another shooter, with the possible exception of SWAT4, if and when it is released.
Whisper_44 0
While I have not gone the the extreme that Para has gone too and uninstalled all my titles. VBS-1 is the only game I play, I'm making my own missions, and for anyone (WardenMac) who knows me, knows that if I can make missions, anyone can. I will also echo what Gordo said about the community - small but mature, there is quite a bit of local talent that has changed their game of choice. Best money spent on PC entertainment by me since GR was released.

AUS_Viper 0
"Is Don........................Is Good" cheers...... ← Ditto I also have uninstalled my FPS's including a half-done campaign in GR. Once I started scripting in VBS1 and saw the limitless possibilities it offered, I could never go back to ol' GR. Call me hooked
pz3 338
whats the best packs to get? all or just a few and wich ones?
Parabellum 12
whats the best packs to get? all or just a few and wich ones? ← ADF1, Terrain 1, and SF1 at least. That will give you a good mix of terrain as well as units. I have all of the addon packs, and I enjoy them immensely.

Parabellum 12
If you're going to mod or make addons for VBS1, you'll need at least the following: -3ds max, or some other software that will export 3ds format -Oxygen, BIS's in-house 3d editor/exporter -PhotoShop or Paint Shop Pro for making textures PAATool, a nifty little utility for converting TGA to VBS1's proprietary formats. You can also use TexView, but it's not as good. -Some type of text editor, preferably CHOFPSE, a great script editor for OFP/VBS1 -Basic knowledge of C++ and coding, or access to a person who has that knowledge and will help you -Utilities to pack and unpack VBS1's PBO archives You can get all of the above at VBSResources. Argyll 1
I've been tinkering with the Mission editor to see these superb characters,I fixed up a small mission.......nothing fancy, just some waypoint testing etc, using the ODA Team....and utilised some of the effects, such as ambience and camera's etc...sit back and watch them in observer mode....AI is outstanding....covering doorways, alley ways etc.......and never the same way twice!! I'm going to really enjoy this when I get all the keys sussed!.......playing on a laptop is not so clever as you really need the numeric keypad for some stuff. The desert ODA are now my fave models.......so much potential with modding I think.....on an off topic I've got my Eotech 552, ready for the M4's when they arrive, and have just also got the wasatch Highspeed webgear,if we ever get to wear it! ? Now back on topic, are there any buildings within the desert map that can be entered for a little CQB....a La Fallujah style?
EricJ 0
Whenever I get VBS1 I'm going to try and do some missions I've done, or heard of over here. My gunner uses an EoTech on his 240. Now that's a combo

Yeah the ai without much scipting will do a dman good job esp if u boost their AI. I've seen the OPFOR and BLUFOR pull off some very good moves and use tactics I've yet to see in any other FPS at all. And as far as basic misisons go quite easy to get into it- BTW Argyll have u found all those missions on the CD I sent. there's about 80 or so there The desert ODA are now my fave models.......so much potential with modding I think.....on an off topic I've got my Eotech 552, ready for the M4's when they arrive, and have just also got the wasatch Highspeed webgear,if we ever get to wear it! ? The Desert ODA are well done thats for sure. They look very good with their kit. Have u had a look at the TAG Units yet mate? Now back on topic, are there any buildings within the desert map that can be entered for a little CQB....a La Fallujah style? There are one or two buildings- it doesn't handle CQB any where near as well as the Rainbow Six series. But there's a few buildings that can be entered in the des map. But there's a few buildings that can be entered in the des map. Only two that I know off. But I haven't completely explored the whole desert map yet. In the Euro maps theres a few more that can be entered though. AI isn't all that flash indoors anyway. However, I do like the way they switch to pistols when in close......
