2nd Ranger
Here's the big thread for the visual chronicles of our noble exploits. Sunday 17th October - Mission : Spearhead (Afghan war). Nino on the left with the RPG, me in the middle with the shades, and T on the right sporting his winter 1979 'Soviet Pirate' ensemble. Yarr. T taking a short breather just before our first attempt to attack the enemy-held Al Jarud. T's character is undoubtedly the best looking. Nice beard. Sart saluting me, the assistant squad leader. He knows who's boss. Sart as the medic. Dig that funky helmet, daddio. T takes a stroll while Nino points his RPG at me. I won't lie to you - I was terrified. Finally, the target that gave us so much trouble. Three trucks and a fuel station. Many Comrades died to destroy this place. Sart
As the Russian-Afghan campaign continues, we finally manage to destroy the enemies fuel supplies. Some shots: 2nd Ranger, our squad leader, giving his favorite () soldier a salute: Our objective, a well guarded set of fuel trucks, and pump: Our team medic, attacking an enemy patrol truck: And the firefight itself, Ranger, Nino, and some AI guys dig in between some houses (wile my lazy ass was in a tower a mile away):
2nd Ranger
2nd Ranger, our squad leader, giving his favorite (wub.gif) soldier a salute: I'm not saluting in that shot, I'm reaching for the samurai sword on my back to show you what honor tastes like. That mission is hard as hell. I'm growing to hate it. Maybe one day we'll actually make it out of there alive.

Marine Sniper
What mod is that you guys are using?
2nd Ranger
Come on now, that would be too easy! Next time I'll make sure somebody has a sniper rifle, it's easy peasy to add via script, as we don't actually get a russian sniper character (unless I used a stock sniper). Besides, a chopper would probably waste all the other trucks, which we need to get out of there. And that mod is the Russian Naval section of the USMC Assault pack. Sart
Sounds cool, if we can get a sniper in that tower, wile our soldiers hit from the south, the little punks won't know what hit them...
2nd Ranger
I was editing that mission, putting some ammo crates in for sniper rifles, etc, when I realised I hadn't yet checked for the Russian naval pack's ammo yet. I found some crates like "russian ammo crate", "Spetsnaz ammo crate" etc, and this is what I found in them; First of all, a small Russian ammo can that contains mags. This will be useful for scattering around the map, since we can't use the Mid-East guys' ammo. The Russian and Spetsnaz ammo crates actually contain some weapons I hadn't seen yet. The new weapons are the AK-101 (top, centre), which has a 2x optic in the style of the M21, and the 6G-30, which is the grenade launcher you can see there. The crates contain variants of the other weapons, with suppressors, and different optics like the IP-29, which looks like this; That optic goes on the AK74m and the RPK74M. 2nd Ranger
Check this out. I looked around and I can now allow us to select our kits from the 'gear' screen at the briefing. This rules so hard. Ak74 cobra with a 24 round GP25 vest, four magazines, and an RPG16D with one round. I added all the Russian naval pack weapons (plus a couple of SVDs) to the list with enough ammo to go around, and also binoculars and NVGs, not that we'll need the latter for this mission. Sart
COOL! I got a new mission done if we play tonight, something a tad... different.
2nd Ranger
Rock on. I'm gonna scatter some ammo cans around my mission and send it to Pave, just to check nothing is amiss.

2nd Ranger
Great games tonight. Finally finished the Spearhead mission, shame T had to leave. Pave, me, and Sart in front of the vanquished fuel station. Pave took it out with an RPG/grenade combo about ten minutes into the firefight. Sart covering 5, the RPK gunner, as he delivers some pain to the enemy truck down the road. The three of us take a well-earned rest after successfully securing the town after a hard twenty-minute firefight. '5', far right, tries to look mean with his ski-mask/bandana combo. Me doing a little target practice at the Taliban training camp. Other screens; http://www.nicold.com/upload/store/sartgun.gif http://www.nicold.com/upload/store/obj3.gif I also forgot to mention in that post about the weapon selection, that I also enabled respawn, so that anybody who gets killed respawns into any remaining AI unit. It certainly came in handy during that mission, Edited October 19, 2004 by 2nd Ranger
Marine Sniper
I tried to join you fellas but for some wierd reason when I was recieving the file it just didn't respond... Did you need the compatible jam packs for the Marine Assualt Pack? Edited October 19, 2004 by Marine Sniper
2nd Ranger
If you don't have the JAM addon, then it would be a good idea to get it. If you have everything we have, then there shouldn't have been a problem. What was your error message?
Marine Sniper
An error page popped up and said that OFP is not responding and it needs to shut down. It gives you the option to end the application or send an error report...
El_Nino
Nice work completing that mission lads. Sorry I couldn't be there with ya.
2nd Ranger
I was mooching around the editor today and under the 'Resistance' side, I found a VITAPC option. I dropped some of the soldiers into a mission, and it turns out the VITAPC pack comes with our very own Afghan OPFOR! These guys are varied and some have new or remodelled weapons/sounds, and when you kill them, they shout out something in Arabic. I wondered why there were RES versions of the vehicles and weapons in the APC pack.
2nd Ranger
From the game I attended this evening, I give you shocking new evidence that OFP rivalry threatens to destroy our heroic team from within. In this screenshot, Pave Low is clearly seen on the verge of blasting Sart in the back of the head while he does his duty and covers to the East. The imminent crime was averted only when Pave saw me turn the corner and witness his dastardly deed. Pave Low is currently being held in Guantanamo Bay, pending investigation. Sart
More from our heroic Russian-Afghan war... Here is comrade T, showing off his new AK-74U: Some people take ammo from dead guys. Some frags. T takes bikes: Sergeant Pave, getting ready to engage and enemy patrol: Another one of Pave, as we try not to get lost:
2nd Ranger
In addition to those Afghan resistance guys, today I found the new Eastern guys that come with the VITAPC full pack. Some woodland Spetsnaz guys and a 'Sobr' sniper team, all with the new weapon models (and the new VSS Vintorez suppressed sniper weapon). 2nd Ranger
This is one of the guys from the Sobr team And a couple more I took for good measure. Edited October 22, 2004 by 2nd Ranger

2nd Ranger
Figured it was about time I got around to trying out the laser designator. There is a way to do it using planes that aren't in your group, but it involves a big script (or a complicated activation/condition line, no examples of which I've tried have worked). However, you can do it just as effectively by adding the bomber to your group when you call it in. Painting the target... (note the laser beam on the plane) Boom! Dosvidanya, Comrade! Basically the A10 joins your group, then when it sees the target being painted, it calls it out to the team leader, who then just uses the command menu to tell the pilot to target the 'laser target'. Then the A10 comes around again for a better angle, and drops one or two laser-guided bombs smack onto where the laser is pointing. The devastation is marvellous.
