T_1
Sart and I tried, and tried, and tried ... to get Sockets to work. He couldn't see my server, I couldn't see his. Also as an upshot he now can't see my Direct Play server either I can't understand why the sockets are not working, but it may be down to network latency, or my firewall/router combo. A lot of work tonight, and no return We may try hosting with GameSpy arcade to see if that is any better.
Sart
Yeah what a shame, hopefully gamespy will work for us. Anyone got a link to D/L GS arcade?
Private B
Here, and choose the free one.
El_Nino
Geez, that's a crying shame. I'm sorry to hear it and hope you don't hold it against me. . What do you think about hosting over ASE instead of Gamespy, still need to open a few ports but it might be less intrusive than GS. It's wierd that you should have such difficulties with sockets. Everything I read about it over at the official forums suggests it's the platform of choice. El
Sart
Nino, if your around tomorrow, do you want to try hosting via sockets and see if we can join you?
El_Nino
Tomorrow's going to be a bit crazy. What time were you thinking EST?
Sart
Hmm... 5? If your too busy don't worry about it. We always have the weekend!
T_1
We can try ASE if that is what most people are suggesting, then all the better. Certainaly from reading the forums it would appear that Sockets offers the better network code. All you lose is the Voice Over Network feature, and since we use TeamSpeak anyway it's no loss for us
Sart
Alright then, I'll grab ASE. Hopefully when can get playing!
T_1
Well it seems that it was my connection that was causing the problem. Ran TCPOptimizer, adjusted the settings and off we went. Sart was hosting as a mid way point between me and El Nino, and we both had similar pings to his server. Looking Good
Sart
No lock ups! None! Woo hoo! Turns out I just need to be playing in Sockets, groovy.
T_1
Hopefully we can make sure that 2nd Ranger can see the same thing. I'd like to try and host to see what the connections are like to my PC. I've a 2.8 P4, so I've plenty of spare CPU power to run a server as long as the connection problems we've had in the past have sorted themselves out with me running TCPOptimizer, which I hope they have. We can try later on if someone else is on, however I may not be around (gaming wise) until Saturday Night
2nd Ranger
I'll probably be around this evening for some tests.
