RossAdamBaker 0
Hello all you forum gurus, I just built a new pc using a DFI Lanparty NF2 Ultra B board... with onboard Realtek ac97 audio and running Windows 98se. Everything seeems to be working great, except with this one crazy problem I'm having with Ghost Recon. I'll just be minding my own business, doing the training... crawling under some barbed wire, or shooting a machine gun, when all of a sudded, out of nowhere, at a random time, my speakers start letting out this horrible static hiss buzz type noise... I can still hear the correct sound that the game itself should be making (the lady telling me what to do) but it's very muffled behind the crazy noise. No other games do this... C&C Renegade, Red Faction, Raven Shield, Mechwarrior 3, Battlefield 1942... they all work fine! (Though one time I couldn't hear my gun sounds in Raven Shield... but after switching weapons, everything was fine again.) I've tried disabling my sound hardware acceleration via dxdiag, and that seems to fix the problem... I can get through the training mission and to the end of the first mission without that problem, however there's a bit of delay on my sounds likely due to the emulated sound. I'd also prefer not to have to disable my sound card if at all possible! I've also tried the "soundinsoftware" option... but oddly enough the problem still exists with this workaround enabled. I have the latest drivers right from NVidia's website for my sound card... I've installed a bunch of wdm patches for Windows 98se, which I heard can have some problems... and again, other games work fine. If anybody has any idea what's going on, please let me know! Thanks! Thanks in advance for any advice! Ross Adam Baker
ZJJ 74
Which of the two chipsets did you load the drivers for? Nvidia used two different sound chipsets. Go to your mobo manual or to the mobo mfr. website, and make sure you loaded the right driver for your chipset.
