Major Maximum 0
okay, I have been lookin at cards to replace my GForce2ti200 card and I was wondering:would it be better to go for the GF3ti500 or something in the GF4 line, like an MX420/440?
Stinger 0
GF3 Ti500 for sure. They beat the MX series. The only reason most people have an MX (GF4) card is because we dont have AGP slots. You do have an AGP slot eh?
RooK 0
GF3 Ti500's can score around 8500-9000 3dmarks ('01) and GF4 MX series score around 5000-6000. It's a no brainer. GF4 ti series is a completely different matter though.
ArchAngeL143 0
I like my GeForce 4 Ti 4200
Killa_N_Manila 0
It would be a smart idea to maybe look at the TI4200. The prices are down and the upgrade would be a little more substantial and you'd see more improvement.
snakebite1967 0
the gf4 ti 4200 seems to be the best performance to money ratio at the moment best card ive ever owned and ive had a few
Zebb 7
Especially with the FX cards coming out soon, the prices should be coming down even more....
Stinger 0
nVidia scrapped the Ultra version of the FX so only the standard will be out. And the standard barely beats the Radeon in some tests. So combined with the leaf blower and poor performance it makes compared to the much older Radeon 9700, I doubt the prices will change much. But I too hope they do
RooK 0
BTW, ATi recently announced the 9800 Pro It's the 9700 with a 375mhz core and 350mhz(700) ram. I'm thinking the FX won't have much spunk when the 9800 hits.

You do have an AGP slot eh? Hey Stinger, whats an AGP slot? And whats it used for?
WhiteKnight77 1
AGP is an Advanced Graphics Port and has a direct link to the CPU for better preformance. A PCI slot has to wait in line so to speak before it's information is sent.
snakebite1967 0
but also of interest is the new pci bus they are working on if it gets finished it will more than double the speed of an agp port so will be interesting to see what develops in the future

Sounds interesting. Sea, to find out if you have an AGP slot look on your mobo and check for a brown slot right above all your PCI slots.

Major Maximum 0
well the only reason I compared the ti500 to the mx series is because I am just a high school student and I have seen some ti500s for pretty cheap, where the GF4ti series is around 3-400.
