Cpl Ledanek 247
Is it true that with the right WIFI card you can "gain" internet connections? Heard of story about someone receiving a laptop (dell) as a gift, and by some random act (person is novice PC user) of clicking away on her laptop, she managed to connect to someones bandwidth, and surf the internet. Person does live in a townhouse complex where the units are wall-to-wall with tenants. Connection is strong in any part of her townhouse. If so, can you do that with desktop? What programs do you need to..."appropriate"
Super-Bob 0
All you need is for someone to be stupid enough to make an insecure network.
supasniper 0
just set up your laptop right and drive around an industrial estate/business park for a while, you'll pick up loads of unsecure networks
Dannik 43
...also known as wardriving. Not something advisable, as getting caught can be quite an unpleasant experience. There was a 'gentleman' arrested in Toronto recently for wardriving as a way to download child pornography.

Dannik 43
You can purchase 802.11x PCI cards for desktop PC's. Pretty much all of the networking hardware companies manufacture them.

I guess only way to tell if any of my neighbor has unsecure connection is to buy and try, return if none available....thx, will search the best place to buy one now and see how much their re-stocking fee. Dannik 43
You can purchase Wi-Fi detectors that are pocket sized (or sometimes even smaller) that will sniff for you. Cheaper than buying a Wi-Fi card, but only really useful if you plan on using it more than a couple of times.
