EverQuest 2?

Recommended Posts

I doubt there are many EverQuest fans hanging around here, but - anyone know if it is worth trying out? I've been asked in on the "open beta" and am not sure if I should try it or not. I did a very quick search on the web and in the 20 secs I spent browsing I saw people saying that they would starve themselves to play EQ2, and that they lost 5 years of there life on EQ1.

Imagine losing 5 years of your life on a game, sheesh. Oh, wait a minute....

The other name for EverQuest was EverCrack... for a reason. I knew someone who used to call in sick for work at least once a week because he had been up all night playing.

Rocky, don't do it. You'll either hate it or you'll get sucked in.

LOL!!!!!

I tried Morrowind once and didn't like it too much, so if it is along the same line it's prolly not my cup of tea.

Pay money each month to play a game where all you get to do is attack rats and talk to people?

LMAO. That reminds me, talking about pay-to-play games, I must go and read that Eve Online article in PC Gamer this month. They have a huge 4 or 5 page piece on it. I tried the free 3 week trial, but it just seemed like "fly here fly there" yadayadayada. Totally exquisite to look at, and cracking interface, but lacking.... something...

Yeah, the UK PC Gamer crew are massive Eve Online fans... I've never tried it myself, but I'm not averse to the idea of space sims. Quite good for escapism, though often either over- or under-detailed. I played the X2 demo a while back, and that definitely fell into the former category which just made it unfun.

Anyway, on the subject of EverQuest... I would also advise you don't experiment with these so-called "harmless" games. The furthest I've ever gone into RGP land is the Diablo series... and even that I can only handle for a month or so at a time. The amount of experience you get is inversely proportional to the fun you have, unfortunately, because as you continue, there's less and less to look forward to, and less is left to the imagination. :( Just a downward spiral into aimless item and experience runs...

I love a good Role playing game, but the original Everquest was not good matter of fact it was really bad.

I too was invited for the free month and played with some guys from work that thought it was the end all be all of gaming, what a crock...I still can't believe they pay each month to Sony for a piece of $#@%.

I prefer to wait for something like the new Elder Scrolls-Oblivion which some say will redefine RPG's, and from the screens I've seen will totally rule on all platforms.
