Zantar45 0
Ah nutz, looks like I wont be able to use my PC for awhile. Once my bro finds out, he's gonna be here 24/7 playing the demo. Downloading from FP now.... http://www.fileplanet.com/download.aspx?f=144640
DeltaDude 0
What are the requirements?
DeltaDude 0
Well I'm sold, I'm deffinetely getting this. The demo is awesome, and it only has two battles in it. Nothing like sending a group of Carthaginian war elephants charging into the flank of a Roman battle line.
budgie 1
can't wait. Over at Fileplanet?
Avey 0
Fileshack only had a 10 min wait when i tried last night.

Avey 0
Nothing like sending a group of Carthaginian war elephants charging into the flank of a Roman battle line. Yeah, those elephants make a right mess out of foot soldiers. Shame i made mine run through my generals unit en route.
budgie 1
I played it and saw much that I liked. the Feel, music, production values are the same. The gameplay is just as good as the rest of the series. The brand new 3D actors and foliage are fantastic. The whole this looks porduct improved. But me has some design decision complaints: 1) No blood? I liked this feature in Shogun and was disappointed to see it taken from Medieval. A blood-soaked battlefield should be a stable of massive sword and spear battles. 2) What's with the selected unit hilighted on the battlefield? And with green marker lights underfoot!!!! That annoying RTS convention was mericfully absent from earlier versions and detracts from the visceral experience. This is supposed to be a game for grownup RTS fans - can I turn it off? 3) You used to be able to click and drag a unit's formation and density: A long line two or three men deep or a thick square phalanx. Now the feature seems to be used to a box that cna me dragged over clusters of units - again traditional RTS style. Did anyone see how to set formations and directions? 4) The tutorial is forgivable but the sample battle at Trebia (I recall reading Livy's 'historical' account of this in University) has an annoying voiceover and cut scene to set it up. It's a long wait for what turned out to be a quick victory. I remember Hannibal. I remember the Romans. I remember elephants. But as far as I recall there was no annoying Australian git giving a running freaking commentary in 218 BC! If there are ways around these annoying gameplay changes, I'll buy the game. Otherwise it just won't be the same... Edited August 25, 2004 by budgie
Pyro_Monty 0
As for your second two points: 3) You used to be able to click and drag a unit's formation and density: A long line two or three men deep or a thick square phalanx. Now the feature seems to be used to a box that cna me dragged over clusters of units - again traditional RTS style. Did anyone see how to set formations and directions? I think there's an option down in the bottom right to change formation, though IIRC you only get two choices. Maybe have a look through the hotkeys and see if there's an alternative. You can skip the cut scene (I think Escape will do it). Plus if you set the advice off you get rid of your advisor once and for all.
budgie 1
Great thanks. But what about the green lights? I don't wanna play warcraft...
Pyro_Monty 0
Yeah, the green lights didn't bother me until you mentioned it... I can't see any way of turning it off, but then I'm only really starting to get to grips with all of the game's capabilites.
Matt03 0
This game seems like it will be a million times better than Medieval and that is saying something. I think I will like the new campaign setup. The demo was pretty good although I probably would have selected a different battle. But it was still fun. The game ran good which is always a plus. So it seems like this will be one to put on my things to get list.
DeltaDude 0
You can still drag units into formation, however instead of holding the left mouse button down you hold down the right mouse button and drag. Also the plus and minus keys will increase and decrease the depth of ranks in the formation. You can get rid of the green triangles, but you have to go into one of the game files and edit a command line, I'll dig it up somewhere.
Matt03 0
I think I saw somewhere that that triangle has something to do with the morale, health, or something like that of the soldiers. But I can't recall where and I don't have the demo anymore.
Sup 0
ARRRGGGGHHHHH why can't i have DSL?!?!?!?! :wall: Where I'm at, EBGAMES if giving the demo out if you put 5 dollars down on a game... I just missed it when I reserved Halo2's collectors edition...
