AUS_Viper 0
Well, it finally had to happen..... Our prodigy son has finally made the big time. After years and years of training, his first century was achieved... It was a very memorable occassion, Gordon going into bat as number 1 on a pleasant summer afternoon at Lords. The UK boys were fired up for the occassion, but none of them had seen the "UNISOL" in action before... Young Gordon opened the batting for Australia, but very quickly found himself running out of partners. As usual, the other opener "Viper" was caught LBW for only one run. Viper has a reputation for designing gameplay scenarios, but unfortunately his batting form has been very average. The only double digit score was achieved against a sub standard opposition. The number three batsman came in, as just as quickly was sent back to the pavillion for a measley 5 runs. (Name witheld pending legal action against the poster). That didn't phase Australia's newest sensation. The English were throwing in bouncers, yorkers and alike....but young Gordon just used his feet well and hit them over the boundary. Gordon and the number 4 batsman seemed to be starting a good partnership, hitting 29 runs off one over, but alas number 4 went for a pathetic 6 runs, due to a poor cut shot that found a thick edge and floated down to the 3rd man for an easy catch. Next to the crease was the number 5 batsman. Clearly embarrassed by his teams perfromance and wanting to impress, he went wild and slogged 11 runs in only 9 deliveries, but unfortunately on delivery number 10 he was clean bowled. Of course Gordon was still in. Throughout the afternoon, our favourite son hit fours and sixes off of seemingly perfect deliveries. With a swashbuckling style that would make Errol Flynn jealous, he carved up the opposition bowling with ease. Then came the nervous period. He was sitting on 98 for what seemed an eternity. The OPFOR bowlers were giving him the best they could. And then came the shot.... A well delivered ball pitched between middle and leg that would trouble most batsmen, but not Gordon. He skipped down the pitch and with a cracking shot, lofted the ball over mid-off for a remarkable six. A drunken Liverpudlian with one hand on a Carlsberg managed to take the catch - unfortunately he was 12 rows up and not part of the team. The crowd erupted! Both BLUFOR and OPFOR spectators applauded this fine innings. Gordon raised his bat (which looked suspiciously like an M4) and waved to the crowd. Not surpsing, he was awarded man of the match for this amazing runsheet. (other players names deleted due to current court action) It's no surprise that the lads in the team call him UNISOL. Short for Universal Soldier.... For those of you that couldn't make the game, here is a pic of our very own UNISOL.... Let's all raise our glasses for a truly remarkable effort.......
