We sell oem at our work with new computers, and that is definately below oem prices. windows xp pro is 120 our cost still in 3 packs. Also it is not legal to sell oem windows xp this way as it is susposed to be bundled with hardware. Be vary wary of it. Also take note that none of the companies will support it. Oem is original equipment manufacturer.... in other words you don't ask them for support, the place you got your computer from is responsible for it.

Also with oem windows xp pro the license is susposed to die with the computer it is bundled with.

The pricing there showing is around or just above educational costs.

Has anyone actually bought anything from this company? They are falsely showing a retail picture of xp pro. oem version doesn't come in a box. just the manual and the cd shrink wrapped with the sticker.

They probably used the retail box to show people the product so they could see something familiar and know what they are selling. After all, there is no box with OEM software.

Microsoft has many companies that it deals with that they allow to sell OEM software. Windows98 was the same way. But MS had deals with companies and allowed it, as long as it had the serial number, and all original documentation. You may want to be sure of that fact before turning people away from a good buy.

MS may have in fact sold them bulk OEM versions, and that company got a great deal on them.

And I know for a fact that MS does allow this, because at one time, I was buying alot of MS software and called MS to varify the legality of it, since I was working for an IT department.

It's true, that you need to provide your own support with OEM software. MS, nor any other company has ever supported OEM software. SOme do, yes, but you pay by the hour. Usually 39US an hour for support. So, do know what you are getting into.

As for it being just above educational costs, that could depend on how much they bought. They may have gotten a really great bulk deal, as most of these OEM resellers do from time to time.

for windows 98 you could change computers with the cd. (if one dies install it legally to another) for xp legally under oem licensing you cannot. It dies with the pc it is provided with. read the eula. Also it cannot be resold without a pc or piece of hardware.

Another common misconception is that you can transfer a preinstalled or OEM copy of Windows from an "old" machine to a new machine. An OEM software license may not be transferred from and old machine to a new machine—even if that machine is no longer in use. The OEM license is tied to the machine on which it was originally installed and can't be transferred to other machines. Please advise your customers of this licensing rule. If they request a "naked" PC and are planning to transfer an old OEM operating system license to the new machine—they will not have a legal license to run Windows on this new machine.

All oem system buiders as myself know this...
