Whisper_44 0
Just wondering what everyone thinks - pretty hot topic here in my office, about adjusting the gamma to eliminate the need for NOD's
WhiteKnight77 1
If you do something to allow for an advantage over someone else that does not do the same thing, it is cheating.
Ben 0
You can change the gamma ingame, right? So, why would RSE make something like that if it's cheating, or if it gives you an advantage? You actually tried it? I changed my gamma to see if it had any effect in nightmaps, and it doesn't. It only makes your screen more gray and it's annoying, i have it set to 0.1 lower then when you see a dark black color, not gray-ish There is something else that gives you an extremely small advantage, if you set your graphics to LOW, but it only works when you set it to LOW or something similar to that in your videocard options, not talking about ingame options. Then you're able to see people about 1.0 - 1 meter earlier then normal in nightmaps, that's 0.125 - 0.250% of a big map that you can see extra. You won't even notive it There's a difference between tweaking and external programs imo. That's why i said No Edited August 12, 2004 by Ben
Dannik 43
If you do something to allow for an advantage over someone else that does not do the same thing, it is cheating. While I support your zero tolerance attitude towards potential cheating, it's dangerous to make such a blanket statement. I go out and spend several thousand dollars on a 42" plasma TV, and use it as my monitor. If you do not, and instead rely on a small 14" SVGA monitor with a slightly failing tube, I have done something giving me advantage over you. This is exactly why I am feverishly against Punkbuster. You set your gamma outside an allowed range, and they ban your computer for life in any PB game. Ok, fair enough that excessive gamma settings can give you an unfair advantage, but it can also make up for things like a failing monitor, which I personally went through recently. I had my Windows gamma settings jacked through the roof for a couple of weeks, until my monitor finally went black, and I could afford a replacement. If I had tried to play some America's Army during that time, I'd be a "punk busted" for life.
blistr 0
My vote is no, it's not cheating. I define cheating as an act that is performed outside the boundaries allowed. You can change the gamma ingame, right? So, why would RSE make something like that if it's cheating, or if it gives you an advantage? Gamma settings can be altered within GR's options menu. If it is an option within the game, it cannot be considered cheating IMO.
Styles 0
If you do something to allow for an advantage over someone else that does not do the same thing, it is cheating. Might aswell say that changing ur resolutions is cheating too cause mine is different than the next guys.
Lethal.Ambition 0
The higher the resoltion the more detail per pexil the better you see the enemy when hiding.... As for the settings...sometimes my settings allow me to see the outline of an enemy before they come into range....or see a shadow before I see their body. I usually shoot after I see them to prevent from being accused of cheating.
MrOELOELOE 0
adjusting gamma cheating?? whats next? I get a lucky shot off and cheat because I was lucky and you not... I have different settings at my new and old computer for gamma settings, because if I'd put them equal one of them wouldnt allow me to see *EDIT:* anything . Its an ingame setting, to provide you with the graphics settings YOU want for the game..how can you even think of that being cheating (unless of course you find a way to expand the settings outside the game-boundaries, or something) ok tnx byebye Edited August 16, 2004 by MrOELOELOE
Sundowner 0
changing gamma ingame may give you a slight advantage in a dark room if its turned up, as i always had it up slightly while playing cs, but it also had the downside to where outside in light the screen could get extremely bright as to make it hard to notice a player until it was to late so no i dont think its a cheat as it can both help you and hinder you, so if someone has it up so high as to make dark rooms, etc nice and bright they are most likely losing some advantage in lit up areas, and as others have stated it also serves useful functions in failing hardware
BornToKill 0
Oh man get real. This means that cus i spent £250 on a graphics card and the next guy spent £30 i'm cheating cus i can see alot clearer than he can, and my game runs smoother cus i have higher frame rates. It would also mean anyone who's on Broadband is a cheat cus the poor old 56k's lag. Damn even guys wearing glasses will start complaining cus i can see clearer than they can. What if i have 6.1 super mega surround sound and he don't, i can hear where his footsteps are coming from, left or right and he can't tell which side cus he's got some crapy monitor speaker. ITS A GAME, IT'S MEANT TO BE FUN, AT THIS RATE NO ONE WILL MATCH IF THERES EVEN A WHIFF OF A RED PING. OMG HE MUST BE CHEATING CUS HE KILLED ME!! WHATEVER NEXTED?? Shall i come round and test your blood, you may have a higher than normal caffine or some phetamine in ya blood that gives you faster reation time than me, it's not fair, it's just not fair. Well Life ain't ###### fair. I personally couldn't give a ###### if the next guy has a slight advantage over me, because at the end of the day, skill and tactics is more what this game is about. You get cheats everywhere in life, but they are just sad cus their crap and feel the need to get an advantage over someone. But it still doesn't mean they're any good. If your that competative that such small things make that much difference then play better!!

WhiteKnight77 1
I wear reading glasses now. Funny, before I sat at my PC most of the evening and most of the day on the weekends, I didn't need them as bad.
LordVampyre 0
being color blind I have found that some maps especially day maps its almost impossible for me to see things. I adjust the gamma to allow me to see what is going on. So, to me it isnt cheating. Its making it so I can play the game.
