CR6 0
Here's the direct link to SP2 at Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en It's the Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers - i.e. people who want to install SP2 on more than one machine. Personally, I would always download patches directly from MS and not a third party site
Parabellum 12
Someone else said that installing SP2 caused their framerates in 3d applications to drop by something like 30%. They rolled back to before SP2, and all went back to normal.
Giampi 39
I believe I'm one of the few people who preferred not to install SP1 cause the inacceptable usage of memory caused. I installed all the secuity patches anyway.

noojam55 0
As a developer I hav had this patch for over 6 months now (from BETA testing - current). The first thing we noticed in our company was the useful features such as popupblocker and firewall. we also were not affectred by trhe recent sasser and mydoom HOWEVER, u hav to ask urself, wot kind of company, builds in an option to reboot the computer from the command prompt (via a program) usign the simple command as shutdown. this is asking for hackers to make a program to remotely do this. al it needs is a bit of web programming experience, an innocent website infected and ur away
Specter 0
I believe I'm one of the few people who preferred not to install SP1 cause the inacceptable usage of memory caused. I installed all the secuity patches anyway. It's true that in the beginning before it was fixed, that SP1 had unacceptable memory usage. Not so anymore. However, I would definitely wait for SP2 to be out awhile and check up on it for bugs and such before I ran out and DL'd it. Just a thought from the cautious, knowing how they rushed a buggy SP1 to the masses.
Zantar45 0
News in about the XP SP2 from Gamespot; Gamespot XP Service Pack 2 to conflict with games New built-in firewall software to automatically block access of some popular games to the internet. The impending release of Service Pack 2 for Windows XP has prompted Microsoft to reveal a list of programs that may experience problems with the massive update. Included on the rather extensive list are a quite a few games, including such popular titles as Warcraft III and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Microsoft stated that most of the problems are associated with the new built-in Windows Firewall, where users must approve programs that attempt to make Internet connections. However, some programs use data pages that the firewall automatically blocks, as they are common attack routes for hackers. A workaround is built into the firewall software, as well as the ability for advanced users to simply turn it off. The games affected by Service Pack 2 are as follows: Age of Empires II: Age of Kings Chess Advantage III: Lego Chess Combat Flight Simulator 3 Command & Conquer: Generals Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 Conflict: Desert Storm Dead Man's Hand Earth & Beyond Elite Forces Vietnam: Special Assignment 2 Freedom Force Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne Medieval Total War Midnight Outlaw: Illegal Street Drag MotoRacer NASCAR Racing 2003 NBA Live 2000 Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 Roller Coaster Factory Scrabble Serious Sam: The Second Encounter SimCity 4 Star Trek StarFleet Command III Star Wars: Knights: of the Old Republic StarCraft Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield Tribes 2 Unreal II Unreal Tournament 2003 Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Collector's Edition A full list of programs, and the versions affected, is available at Microsoft's Website. Service Pack 2 will be officially released to XP users via automatic update later this month. By Benjamin Golze -- GameSpot POSTED: 08/16/04 04:56 PM PST
