SAWmonger 0
There is a link here with another thread about M16s. The whole R&D and procurement thing fascinates me. The politics of it, the ins and outs, and the rationales that are offered for introducing new weaponry that may or may not be needed. The G11 looks like the perfect solution in my eyes. But someone else's lenses see a totally different picture. Clearly the German gov't saw it differently. The article describes a little testing done in the US. Does anyone know why there wasn't any follow-up?

RooK 0
SAWmonger, in concept it's a great idea. In practice, HK didn't do quite as well. The firearm functioned fine and so on, but look at the internals. It looks like 19th century clock on the inside. Way too complicated for cleaning or even general armorers work. They really need to simplify it before it could be considered as an actual option to modern firearms. As for the US testing, we've held tons of test for new service rifles, always asking for something that gives a large % increase in effectiveness over the M16. You can look up the ACR trials and see what you think about the entries, but none were deemed a vast improvement over the M16 and thus not adopted. I personally thought the Steyr ACR was a nice firearm. It resembles the Aug a great deal, but fires fletchette ammo instead of normal bullets. SAWmonger 0
Yeah, Rook, that whole revolving thing looked like it would be a bear to deal with. I just figured if they created some new gizmo for the inside, there must be a new and improved gizmo cleaner/fixer that comes with it
