porschefan8 0
I just got 3ds max 5 today, and this is the very first thing I've made (so don't be too critical). However, I can't find a good tutorial in the recon section to explain, step by step, how to load a texture into the material editor and use it to texture the model, so could someone please explain that to me? SVD Dragunov Any feedback would be appreciated. Edited July 15, 2004 by porschefan8
mehn_15 0
Try this page; go under the modding videos section. Paine is very good at weapon tuturials and texturing. Nice model too! Keep it up
Suicide Commando 0
Model looks good. How many poly's is it? This video tutorial might be of some use to you. http://www.atwar.net/download.php?view.
porschefan8 0
thanks for the feedback. its 2702 polys, but it is still in a bunch of subpieces, since I have no clue how to weld objects, or get rid of unneeded vertices, etc. I will look into the videos, but I'm bandwidth-challenged, so it would take a long time to download a video that is fairly long. GRT 0
click your cylinders and make them like 11 sided..you'll notice the poly count drop alot. HERE is a picture to show you how.
porschefan8 0
thanks, RR_GRT, polys are down to 2288. However, most of the "cylinders" on the model are extruded ellipses. How do i change the number of sides on them? What do you think of the model?
GRT 0
Hey ya i meant to say it was great on my last post but had 3 people in msn messaging me so i clicked Add Reply to fast. The gun looks great for your first..i can remeber mine and it wasnt pretty . HERE is how to do the ellipse. I dont use ellipse for my guns(cylinders or tubes) so if theres another way i wouldnt know it.
porschefan8 0
thanks, the poly count is now 2132. how do you get the texture to appear in the perspective view while you work. I know the textures are being applied beacause they are there when I render the model. Also, how do I apply textures to extruded ellipses and cylinders? When I go into the edit window for the unwrap uwv, it shows the cylinder polygons from the end, not the side. How do I change this? porschefan8 0
I've made my second model, of the M82. My goal is, once I understand how to texture, export, add the muzzle flash/brass ejection points etc, to make a "standard upgrade" type mod for the sniper rifles in GR. GRT 0
Well trying to save space on my server i tried to answer both questions in 1 jpg.HERE ....do you have msn? i can send you 1 of my guns with points so you can look at it..
porschefan8 0
I figured out how to apply textures to the ellipses, but thanks anyway. i have another question though (as always): I copied the plugins from the extras folder to the plugins folder for max, and restarted it, but under the options to import/export/open/save I don't have the option of importing/exporting files in any of the GR formats like .qob, .pob, and .map, so why isn't it working? I know these are stupid noob questions, but please answer anyway.
GRT 0
you have to take the files out. Take the MapEditorList and extract to your main 3DSMAX folder(this is for map making but ohwell). Then take the rest of the files and put in the plugin folder. The need to be the files not the folder.
porschefan8 0
I did that and now under export it does have the GR file types. However, it doesn't have those types under the import option. could you please explain, step by step, where to put which plugins, and anything else I need to do to get them working? GRT 0
you cant import GR files.
porschefan8 0
thats not good. . . . .it'd be nice to be able to import a GR file, add camo or something, and be able to re export it under a different name for use in a mod. . . . . .
