Crimson 0
I'm in the market for a new joystick. My Logitech Wingman Extreme 3D isnt cutting it any more. I'd like to get something with forcefeed back also. I've already looked at the Saitek and Logitech products, and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations. Super-Bob 0
You gonna be using it for flying?
standalone 0
HOTAS Cougar all the way, nothin' better for flying. This is the official joystick of my VFS (virtual flight squadron).
Crimson 0
Flying and driving. And before anyone says it, no, I dont want a wheel. (Well, I do, I just dont have enough room for more crap.)
Recon 0
HOTAS Cougar all the way Or the Saitek X45 which is the same (just about) but a lot cheaper.
Crimson 0
Those are flight sticks, I need something that I can use for both flying and driving. Plus I said I already looked at Saitek. Edited July 6, 2004 by Crimson
Recon 0
Are any joysticks designed for driving?
WhiteKnight77 1
Are any joysticks designed for driving? Not really, but some guys try really, really hard with them. Props to those who can race better with a joystick than a wheel and pedals.
Chef-Scott 0
Well then you have seen all the joysticks on the market then. The BEST is no longer made, the Microsoft series of force-feedback sticks. You can still find them on e-bay, if you want to pay a preimum price for one. The Cougar HOTAS is total garbage!! If I pay the price they want for their system I should not have to "fix" it to make it work correctly or last. See this site, or google to find many others. http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/mods.php Yes, the Saitek X-45 is a flight controller, but works for other things as well. Currently I use a Saitek Cyborg Evo and a Belkin Nostromo n52. This is my HOTAS system!
Crimson 0
I think I'm going with this. I know it doesnt have force feedback, but I really dont feel like spending 10-20 dollars more for that, because I'm saving my money for other things aswell. I'll go to both BestBuys in my area to see if I can pick it up before I have to buy it online.
Chef-Scott 0
Word of advice... If you buy the Logitech, buy the extended warranty BestBuy offers ($10). I will guarantee you will be returning the Logitech within 3 months. I had that same stick and it barely made 3 months. Took it back (BestBuy) and exchanged it for the Saitek Cyborg Evo. Too bad really, I liked the feel of the Logitech. But within hours I had adjusted to the feel of the Cyborg Evo. I don't play that much to warrant wearing out a joystick that fast. I am not that rough with my hardware to warrant wearing one out that fast either. If you read the IL-2 forums on ubi you'll see the same advice... AVOID LOGITECH JOYSTICKS LIKE THE PLAUGE! Crimson 0
I've had my Logitech joysticks for years and have never had a problem, so that's on you.
Chef-Scott 0
I've had my Logitech joysticks for years and have never had a problem, so that's on you. I take that means you have not had a current Logitech stick then? Yours is several years old? Things change over the years. Do some research on the extreme 3d pro before you buy. Swing by the IL-2 forums at ubi. Caveat Emptor.
dekela 0
well i use the SFS flight controller and throttle assembly, not force feed back, but has 25 buttons that can be programed with 4 different config's.(one for each game or all for one game) could be used for driving i spose. another oldie but goodie cheers...... Crimson 0
I'm not buying the stick for iL-2. 25 buttons? That's way too many.
Chef-Scott 0
Flying and driving. Like, no **** Dick Tracy! The largest base of joystick users that came to mind was the insane folks over at the IL-2 forum on ubi. Nobody has anything good to say about Logitech joysticks over there. When I first got IL-2, I went against everything I read there and other places, and I bought a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I now use a Saitek Cyborg Evo. Go ahead and buy what you want. I really don't care what you buy. Just trying to help out and steer you clear of a frustrating, short life-span product. Do as you wish. Caveat Emptor!!!
WhiteKnight77 1
I know that I would rather have a Logitech verses a Microsoft Sidewinder (I actually have both and the Sidewinder stunk, to much of a dead zone and little control of the aircraft). I would like to get a Siatek, but that will be a while.
pz3 338
Cyborg Evo use it for lock on.... while it doesnt have many buttons it works out alright. just use it for ZoomIn,Zoomout,Center, weapon change, flares/chaffs and lock button. hasnt broken yet i use it about at least once a week for half a year hasnt broken. even with all the BF1942 DC jet flying it stood up.
