[TCS]BlackMamba 0
Is an Antec SmartBlue 350W GB PSU good enough for the following system: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 512Mb DDR 400 PC 3200 RAM Soltek SL-K8AN-RL SKT 754 Mobo 80Gb Seagate SATA HDD Lite On DVD/CDRW Combo ATI Radeon 9800Pro Sound Blaster Audigy 2 If its not could people suggest good PSU's for no more than £50 which would be if there are any. Dannik 43
I'd consider 350w a minimum PSU for your rig. Although you don't really need more power, you certainly have limited overhead when looking forward. If you can find a 400w from a competetive brand, which should be easy enough on your budget, I suggest taking that as a starting point. 350w is technically enough, but considering the rest of the components you are using, 'technically enough' seems like too little. [TCS]BlackMamba 0
What brands are ok?
Dannik 43
Antec, Kingwin, Enermax, Thermaltake, Vantec, Zalman. I'm pricing this this Thermaltake 420w PSU at about £28 (converted from CDN to GBP) locally, so if you can find a decent UK supplier, you should be able to stay on budget quite nicely. [TCS]BlackMamba 0
Ive decided on a Thermaltake Silent 420W ATX PSU DUAL FAN £37.50 dabs.com
Dannik 43
Before VAT, that's only about £4 more than the lowest price I can find around here. Good deal, and good, solid brand. You'll appreciate the overhead next time you go through the upgrade cycle, trust me.
Crimson 0
I have a Thermaltake 420W PSU... love it. Lots of power.
WhiteKnight77 1
Use the Power Supply Calculator to figure out how much power you need. Add 50W for future upgrade purposes.
[TCS]BlackMamba 0
Use the Power Supply Calculator to figure out how much power you need. Add 50W for future upgrade purposes. Thanks unfortunatly it does not have a AMD Athlon 64 or a 9800PRO
[TCS]BlackMamba 0
What differance does a good PSU make compared to a cheap one. For example: 425W HEC PSU for £25.54 from CCL Computers
WhiteKnight77 1
A cheap PSU can have less stable voltage across the rails and supply less amperage on those rails. Spring for the good PSU like an Antec, Enermax or Vantec. You will not regret it. As far as an AMD64 chip, start with a 430W PSU and go from there. If anything use the Athlon XP Palomino core and there is a Radeon 9800Pro listed, it uses the same as a 9700.
NurFACE 0
PC Power & Cooling. Power supplies start and end. Price is high but it is worth it.http://www.pcpowercooling.com/
[TCS]BlackMamba 0
On the calc thingy I got 351 to be needed but its a bit out on the fans and stuff. Im guessing from this that 420 should be okay.
Crimson 0
420W would be perfect. A bit overkill, but enough room to add in another hard drive or what not.
