any free ShopNav remover?

Recommended Posts

1. Open the registry editor(click Start> Run, and type 'regedit'), and find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. In the list of values on the right pane, delete the 'srng' entry.

2. Open a DOS command prompt window (from Start->Programs->Accessories) and enter the following commands,

For the IE variant:

cd "%WinDir%\System"

regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Srng\SearchHook.dll"

regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Srng\IEHelper.dll"

Or for the SN variant:

cd "%WinDir%\System"

regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Srng\SNHelper.dll"

3. Restart the machine and delete the 'Srng' folder inside the Program Files folder.

4. Open the registry editor(Start > Run > regedit) and delete the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Srng.

5. Delete the 'words.lst' file in the Windows folder.

6. Reset your IE search settings to norma by clicking Internet Options->Programs->Reset Web Settings.

From this page.

Well, as another option, the link I provided under the instructions refers to another malware remover program, like Spybot or AdAware. It apparently can remove ShopNav automatically. Might be worth a look.

Oh, and any IT person has two decision paths: Their bosses say 'no way' or they say 'no way'. If yours is the former, can't fault them. If it's the latter, and there's no definitive reason to stick with MSIE (as in certain required applications rely on MSIE to function) they obviously got their training off a cereal packet. A bad cereal packet.

cereal packet...HA! lol

I asked one IT if he would mine if I could disable the ActiveX so we'd have lesser "anomalies"

he looked at me if I was talking about a Medical procedure....LOL

(btw I work in a hospital, it would make more sense)
