I believe he means have body parts fly off the model when hit by a grenade or something

Arms and legs, I don't think so . At least not realistically. Now a head, you could maybe make a headless body or with an invisible head, then make a "head" as a head attachment, add the physics part to the actor file and when he gets hit with a grenade the visible "head" flies off :o

That's actually a nifty idea. It wouldn't animate quite right, but it's still a nifty idea.

we played with this very early on in War of Infamy. However, the method we used was scripted. We had dismembered models and if the actor was hit by artillery then the script would teleport a dismembered version of the actor to the actor position, and swap them with hide/show. It worked except for a very quick blink that you could only cover with a larger explosion type which sometimes just didn't look right itself. The effect was still fairly cool when you had it happen to a friendly NPC right next to you and saw the gore and heard sound/voice effects to match. In the end though, it just proved to be an aweful lot of work for some asthetics and the small glitch just wasn't acceptable enough to push on with it.

Maybe that'll give you ideas or such though.
