Can't select 32 Bit Z-Buffer

Recommended Posts

When I go into the graphics options and look under the Z-buffer depth, the only options I have are 16 and 24. 32 is shaded to where I can't select it. It has been that way since I've had the game, through several reinstallations and on at least 3 different computers. I know the computer I'm on now can handle it, so why can't I select it? Has anyone else had this problem or know of a solution? Thanks in advance for any help!

Your video card (or it's drivers) likely can't parse 32bit Z-buffer. That's reasonably normal, frankly. Ask ATi/nVidia why it's greyed out these days.

You can force GR to 'try' 32bit mode, but if the card won't do it then the XML file edit is pointless. In fact, the only time editing it in the XML file is in the off chance your drivers support it and GR doesn't 'know it yet'.

Basically, don't bother. There's a 0.2% chance it will work, and even then the potential visual gain is about as potent. Sure, you might get it working, but it's like overclocking a Pentium 1. Lots of work at best, with an almost invisible gain.

That doesn't mean that wanting to set the game to the highest specs possible is a bad thing, just that sometimes there are better battles to choose.

Oh, and as per spec, 97% of all statistics are made up on the spot, as mine have. Bascially, slim chance of it doing anything, and just as slim chance of it making a difference. Spend the time downloading some of the great mods instead. Seriously.
