Seventh Lead Developer at Bohemia Interactive states on the vbs1 resources site that VBS1 will be available to the US and Canada in August. So for those americans like me who are waiting for vbs1 to become available, we should get our chance soon.

Frickin great war story Mike.  I loved it so much I showed it to my wife.

Good to see so much enjoyment coming from one of my missions :)

Glad you enjoyed it AB! But were it not for your mission I simply would have been annoying Jack with images from non-missions...lol. I can't wait for your new one.

@Gordo - here ya go mate...

On January 3rd 2006 the US finally tired of Canadian "upitiness" and declared them the newest member of the Axis of Evil. After a month of fruitless engagements yielding only more ground the US formed a coalition, enlisting the aid of one of their more effective Allies, the ADF.

On the 26th of March 3 RAR (Para) dropped LGOP's across the Canadian countryside, in an effort to confuse the overly-polite foe... "Outback Mack" McGavin was emplyed as an embedded reporter with one such patrol whose task was to destroy a suspected Canadian Al-quebec training facility...

"It was bloody cold, and parachuting in winter is only made paletable by the softer landing...well except for one of the lads who landed on some ice (laughs). None the less we quickly met at the RV and assumed an all-around defence.

SnowDZ.jpg

After accounting for everyone we pushed off to the DZ established for two LRPV's as well as some other equipment. Sadly one of them didn't like either a- the cold or b - parachuting, so we were down to one. Once the driver got her running we set off for the debussing point near the objective.

SnowLRPV.jpg

The patrol commander had us move to an area from which he conduct a initial leaders recce to solidify the plan he had drawn up earlier... the first shot show the Al-quebec camp, the second shows a CF AFV that was patrolling the MSR...

SnowRecceCapm.jpg

SnowRecceVeh.jpg

He decided to ammend his approach and assault position further to the north, so we roared off and debussed, moving through the snow to the ORV. Thankfully the snow wasn't too deep, as we forgot to bring snowshoes...(bloody Canadian winters)

SnowMovement.jpg

A nice shot of the objective from behind the line of departure...

SnowObjArea.jpg

Once the paras were settled, off they went... sadly I had to remain behind...but for good reason, those Canucks can fight! After a furious thrity minutes of fighting, I was called down to snap these images of the carnage... that bloody tank just about ruined our day.

SnowObjClear2.jpg

SnowOnjClear1.jpg

Well, once it was all said and done, it was a good day for our Digs and a bad one for Al-quebec. The lads and I made it back to the LRPV and headed south to link up with our Yankee allies."

The pressure to perform is killing me....

So far, the new mission is near impossible, unless you think outside the dots (big hint) - and then it's a walk in the park. I can manage the first objective, since I know where to aim :)

Now onto the next phase of the mission...

I was within 24 hours of importing my copy.

I dont even want to wait unti August. Im kind of a little discouraged with bohemia or coalescant. Im thinking they are the same company just under a front.

Well, now that it's coming to america, I have a few questions.

1. Is the interface the same as in ofp, including the command system?

2. Is the animation better than in ofp?

3. Which add-ons are best?

4. How much better/worse than ofp is it, in realism and fun.

And 5. Is the mission editor the same?

Well, now that it's coming to america, I have a few questions.

2. Is the animation better than in ofp?

3. Which add-ons are best?

4. How much better/worse than ofp is it, in realism and fun.

And 5. Is the mission editor the same?

1. For single player command system is identical as OFP as VBS was designed around Co-op sessions of defence personnel using it as a learning tool. AI is much improved on OPFOR and BLUFOR as well.

2. Graphics wise they run at highle poly and smoother and units are incredibly detailed. Animations wise there are imrpovements over OFP and things like Fast Roping are coming out with dynamic ropes- i.e they move they just don't go straight down.. others like Dust smoke and others will be coming out soon as the Military didn't need or wnat these as they run AAR and Observer and didn't wnat these other animations to cut into the training value of the playback etc...

3. Add osn- dont' just get the core as it's only one map and not near enough units etc... make sure you get another add on map pack... Terrain 2 though more expensive maps are well done and detailed - Map pack 1 has all original OFP 1 maps revamped...

There are a lot of people with ADF pack and these untis are the most detailed by far...

US SF pack is also very well done. As is Marine Pack.. Depends on your preference for units- obviously Aussies will have ADF, Brits prob mixture of ADF and US.. and Yanks...well US SF and Marines.. OPFOR is a good buy for more OPFOR, but more OPFOR is needed..

Animal Pack is a great little pack have to see Kangaroona dn rabbit Ai to believe it...

4. Realism and Fun - if you have MP sessions it'll rock your world from what i hear... and as to realism it makes GR look tame IMHO... this is coming from a GR fan as well- anyone that has played GR and VBS will attest to this. Ai is really imprved over OFP and the general untis are well balanced and these can be altered anyway for military to further model specific performance i.e. effect of .50 specialist ammo etc...

5. mission Editor is revamped but same in prnciple of operation. I.e Scripts and inserting Units/ groups and Intro and Outro scenes- there are howver a whole series of new Dynamic scripts that people are sorting out- it is a more powerful tool then OFP editor.

Cool shots Mike, any chance you could snag an upclose of the snow uni's? They look really nice.

Here ya go mate...

SnowMan1.jpg

@ SN - Woah laddie... he's just annoyed at the NA distributors, not the BIA Aussies. Its the US pricks who have restricted it for no (apparent) reason from Yanks and Canucks. Fortunately, they have found a new distributor and this outstanding game will be available to all.

Is the source of this computer rage...yours? lol. Got VBS to work yet... ;)

Back on topic....

What addon packs have the posters here tried? Can any of you compare quality between them?

Alot of us seem to have all of them (here on GR.net). But on the VBS1 site there is a healthy mix, with the focus mostly being on the Terrain Packs, the ADF pack (oddly :P ), the OPFOR Pack and the US SF and USMC packs....lol...which is most of them. But they are expensive, so most collect them slowly.

Gordo has posted on this tread some great shots (from another site) of the vartious packs.

At the end of the day, personal preference (and depth of wallet) are the key.

(@ Sup - ammend your earlier post just to keep us all happy, he ain't worth it...lol)

@ JTF2 - damn Aussies messing with igloo livin', polar bear huntin', poutine chewin' lifestyle!

I think we lost my five OFP vs VBS1 questions, and the responses...

Anyway, thanks for the link, MarauderMike. The Special Operations, OPFOR, Marine, and Terrain2 packs look really great.

How much comes with the core simulation? At that price, It's probably going to be all I have for a while, and a while before I have it.

Goto their website. Goto the store "order". Then click on the picture of the CD. It tells you everything that is in it. Looks like the actual game, some basic units and vehicles.

The addons are new maps, observer mode(spectate), units + vehicles, After action report(replay).

The addons are like 50$ and the game is about 150$. There are like 8 addons and then the actual game. I would wait until the US release if your just going to get VBS1 without addons. Thats if you like Multiplayer. I hear there arent really many servers and the one's there are all use the addons.

With the US release there will likely be more servers. I am looking to put one up myself or partner up with some people.
