siouxner 0
Whenever I try to run a mod, Ghost Recon ends. I get an error message saying my computer is running low on virtual memory. When I set my virtual mem to the max (4096), the mod will consistently write to my hard drive with no end, freezing everything. It does this on all weapon and uniform mods I have tried. Even a 200 KB mod does this. I should have enough RAM I think, 256 MB. Does anyone have any suggestions? Siouxner
UhOh 0
I generally try to keep my hard drive usage under 75% full and then let Windows assign the amount of VM. That way you get the most space available for VM. Keeping 25% of your drive free will open up a good 2.5GB on a even 10GB drive (a small drive these days).
siouxner 0
Good suggestion in general, but it still doesn't fix my problem. A small mod couldn't run that much memory. The whole GR program probably doesn't take enough to be causing my problems. Any other ideas anyone?? I am at a loss
Greggus 0
Here is a link for a nice Mem tweak, maybe this will fix youre problem http://www.dslnuts.com/yabbse/index.php?bo...y;threadid=1107 also try the Pagefile defragger program on that page works GREAT!! Rocky 1,224
AFAIK your virtual memory should be set to 1.5 times your RAM, as a basic guide... Your RAM is a little on the low side, if possible I would consider putting another 256Mb in.
SOTOMac 0
Set Your System so that You're Managing Your VM @ 512 MB Min. as well as 512 Max. ( Not Windows managing It ). Then - Reboot Your PC, and then run SpeedDisk or Defrag depending on whether You have Norton Uitlities or just Regular Windows Utilities. Please repost with Your results ( If any )... siouxner 0
Thanks everyone for their suggestions. Unfortunately, the problem is still the same after following the advice. I know my ram is little too little, but it doesn't add up. GR runs fine, yet when I add a 200 kb mod, it shuts down. The mod would not be enough to max out my mem. At the very worst (given the amount of virtual mem), I should just be experiencing very slow play. Siouxner
SOTOMac 0
Are You running XP or ME ? If so check to see how much Virtual Mem Your PC is saving for "System Restore" File Size. This could be Your Issue as well. Regards,
siouxner 0
I'm XP. I'll try it. Thanks. Nope, not it either. I took the restore space to min levels. The same thing keeps occuring. Edited February 27, 2003 by siouxner

Rocky 1,224
Rocky are you sure about the 1.5 times, i read in a magazine you should set it to 2.5 times? No, that was off the top of my head, a quick search around the web will reveal the true percentage.
