PainKiller....more like "Serial Killer"

Recommended Posts

Hehe, PainKiller arrived this morning - I been playin' it ever since. I love it.

As soon as the bloke who delivered it had gone, I legged it towards my 'puter as fast as I could all the while frantically tearing at the packaging. I foaming at the mouth with excitement. I got out a knife and cut off the packing like a pyscho going on a killing spree with a knife. I was careful not to even scratch the box though. I didn't wanna scratch, tear or mark the box cuz this was special game.

I take out the GTA VC cd that's in the drive and I whack in PainKiller cd1....installation time. Didn't take too long to install.

Now after install, I got the infamous problem that alot of people have been getting with PK - even though CD3 is in the drive (the cd required to play the game), it won't start. I found the CD fix patch thingy from DreamCatcher. That fixed it.

Now, let the fun begin. Say 'fire it up!!' - I fired up PK for the first time.

The menu screens are nothing special. I went into the options screen, messed about with some stuff in there - it's amazing what a bit of jiggery-pokery can do :D

I started a new game on the easiest difficult. I ain't like alot of gamers who get a new game, when they start a new campaign, the whack it straight on the hardest difficulty....what's the point in that? I was soon to learn, the easiest diffculty is too easy (all enemies, except bosses on Chapter 1 die with one shotgun round). When I finally reached Chapter 2, I discovered that the first mission in Chapter 2 is locked....on the easiest difficulty setting, but I can play from mission 2 onwards in Chapter 2 on this difficulty.

So it starts out, I'm in a grave yard. All I got is the Pain/Killer weapon. So I test it out for a bit....whoa!! This weapon is cool, nice spinning blades to cut up the enemy real good!!

I move forward a bit and catch a glimpse of the shotgun in the distance....then the music kicks in....that's it, that's my signal, get ready to attack....And would you know it? Loadsa skeletons come running at me waving their maces.

I didn't have time to grab the shotgun, I just had to deal with this with the Pain/Killer. I prepared to launch my attack....

"Daddy's comin'!!" I shouted towards the enemy (I actually shouted this in real life)

So I cubed them up real good with the Pain/Killer. That was too easy....NEXT!! So I grabs the shotgun, and wish I hadn't said 'next!' .... More of 'em, where did they come from? Who the hell cares, I just wanna go say 'hello' with my newly acquired shotgun....

BLAM!....headshot!

BLAM!....double kill

BLAM!!....Multi Kill

BLAM!!!....Mega Kill

BLAM!!!!....Rampage!!

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!!

"######ing 'ave it!!" I shouted out (in real life).

I was having so much fun that I didn't realise that I was wounded.

BLAM!!! Woooooo!!! Come get some!! BLAM BLAM!! Huh? Wait a minute, no more enemies....They were all dead. You should have seen the mess - There was blood, guts and limbs everywhere....

Being a Serious Sam gamer, I could almost predict when the massive assualts (me against hordes of enemies) would occur....so I enter this large open room....hmmm.... lots of enemies gonna spawn here. And you know what, they did! There's too many of 'em, they're everywhere!! Where's my backup? Oh yeah, almost forgot, I am alone in this, no back up.

I continued on through the level and saw some amazing physics....at the end of mission one, there's this crypt type thing....you go in and Banshees, Skeletons and this boss kinda guy (I think it's a boss) come running at you....The boss type guys is trying to splatter me all over the walls but he misses and brings one of the pillars down which fell on my head....this is cool, the boss guy is literally bringing the roof down....he's trashing the place and smashing up all the pillars. A few shotgun rounds in the head and he was....well, splattered all over the place!

So I continue on through the missions in Chapter one, seeing amazing physics among other things. The boss at thew end of Chapter 1....it does say huge bosses in PK....and they are huge.... the boss was massive, he was smashing up the wierd graveyard type place. But not even six of him could have me!! I nailed that sucker good. Chaper 2 mission 2, those wierd Amputee guys (no hands, no feet....they walk on their knees. It's quite funny to watch) can walk on the walls an on the ceilings! Some of 'em got back up when I already pumped on shotgun shell into their crusty noggin.

Anyway, I'm on chapter 2 now. Very good game. The 5 weapons in PK are infact 10 weapons....each weapon is 2 weapons:-

Pain/Killer - Pain = spinning blades, Killer = some weird beam thingy....

Shotgun/Freezer gun - self explanitory

Stake gun/grenade launcher - Stake gun fires stakes (well, obviously), grenade lancher.....boom!!

Chain gun/Rocket launcher - self expanitory

Electro/Driver - Electro = electric bolt, Driver = shurikens (keep your finger on the button for an automatic shuriken firing gun!)

Man, I am amazed big time. I see what they mean by "this game has a high replayability factor"

So, fellow PainKiller players (you know who you are) tell me, do I gotta start a whole new game (from the beginning) on another difficulty in order to play Mission 1 of Chapter 2? I know you can do the missions as single missions when you've completed them, but can I play them as single missions on a different difficulty WITHOUT starting all over from the beginning again?

If you ask me, it's more like Serial Killer than PainKiller. Especially the way I play this type of game.

BTW - I managed to take loadsa screenies. I'll post 'em up here when I get round to it....But for now, It's time to unleash the fury again....

**Goes off to play some more**

The Electro/Driver has a third mode. If you hold down one fire button (I think the shuriken one) then press the electro fire button, and release them both (fiddly thing to time) it fires a large disk of electrified steel which will elctrocute folks continually from a distance. Good for crowds of enemies, but it uses a lot of ammo.

Shame there's no flamethrower....I wonder if one can be modded in....

One of the missions said get 100 souls to unlocked the "card" I got 121 out of 150 souls on that level, but it didn't unlock the "card"....it still said get 100 souls....but I had got 121!! What's up with that?

I like it how certain levels are locked on certain difficulties. Unlocked by playing on a higher difficulty....hey, they could do that in GR2....

Wish they'd fix the MP issues for it. Twice we've tried to play it at LAN but no go. Known problem apparently so hopefully they get a fix out soon.

SP bores me senseless I'm afraid - 10 mins max and I'm asleep at the wheel

Different strokes for different folks I guess :rocky:

Nightmare, what happened here? ;)

"The page cannot be displayed

That's what happened....

@Jack57, get patch v1.15 for PK, they fixed the MP issues in it. It's only like 49.54 MB so it will take forever to d/l on my 56k dial-up

So far I got 45 of my own screenies what I took, lemme re-size some and post 'em up here.

Man, Chapter 3 owns....

I was on Abandoned Factory.... A massive group of skeleton soldiers jumped me, guns blazing....and I mean MASSIVE....there was like 50 of 'em in 1 group, then another group of about 50 of 'em spawn behind me! Rocket launcher time!! Boom!! Boom!! I let loose a withering hail of rockets into the middle of the first group of skeleton soldiers.... I paused for a moment seeing the carnage I had just dealt....huge circle of blood, 100 metres wide! Seriously! (well, not quite 100 metres but there abouts  )

Then, grabbing all the souls of the from the now gibbed-up real good first group of skeleton soldiers, I morphed into the demon....hehe. The other group almost on top of me now. I love the demon mode. BOOOOOM!! One shot, 10 kills in demon mode! Gibs fly everywhere.

And who said I was a borderline pyschopath? You guys should realise that you can either play PainKiller my way or the wrong way....

I love that Stakegun too, that a good'un. Pins enemies to walls etc. And those Maso Commandos (with the flamethrowers) are almost impossible to kill. An easy way to nail 'em is to freezer gun 'em first with the freezer part of the shotgun/freezer gun.

I like how the enemies work together. Some of 'em cut each other up to inflict more damaged on you. How does that work you ask? Lemme give you an example: Zombie Warlords sometimes cut off heads of the Zombie warriors. This makes the Zombie Warriors go berserk (then the zombie warriors kill EVERYTHING in their patch including their comrades). Maso Commandos set the skeleton soldiers on fire too....

I'll go an resize the screenies and post 'em up here now.

Well, it does says minimum required ram is 386MB, but I'm running it on my 256 MB ram. It don't run too bad, bit of lag here and there - maybe I should turn the graphics down to medium or something. Because I don't got the required amount of ram, it suffers from huge memory leaks on each level (it does it at least once, sometimes more times). Nevermind, I'll soon have my new rig!! ;)

Woot!! PK mod tools gonna be relased soon. Let's hope they give us a map editor and the 3DSM plugins so I can make some new weapons!

My ideas for weapons:

- Flamethrower/Naplam Bomb launcher (like what the Maso Commandos have got)

Flamethrower wouldn't be useful against Maso Commandos or the Skeleton soldiers (Maso Commandos set Skeleton Soldiers on fire so that the skeletons do much more damage)

- Firework Bomb Launcher/Clusterbomb Launcher

I love shooting the pots of fireworks in the Palace level....shoot ehem, fireworks fly out everywhere, boom boom boom, enemy dead. I could maybe make it so it's like the grenade launcher, but the initial grenades are timed, when they go explode, fireworks come flying out in all directions. Clusterbomb launcher would be best fired into the air first....the initial bomb would then explode in mid-air and rain mini bomblets down on enemies head.

Plasma Gun/Plasma Beamer

Primary fire would fire balls of plasma at a high rate of fire (similar rate of fire to the shurikens from the electrodriver weapon in PK). Secondary fire would fire a continuous beam of plasma (similar effect to the Killer part of the PainKiller weapon), you'll be able to move while firing in secondary fire mode.

And maybe a few other weapons if I could think of any. I'd maybe adjust some of the original weapons too (high explosive rounds for the chaingun etc)

I would also add more characters to MP including:

- Daniel Garner

- Alot of the enemies:- Evil Monk, Hell Biker, Hell Angel, Zombie etc

It would be awesome to run around in MP as a Zombie.

I would make new maps and maybe some new MP modes.....I'm a see if co-op can be modded into MP. I was thinking of making a new "Demon" MP mode....one player starts off in Demon Morph mode (he'd be able to kill everyone else in one shot), and everyone else is against the demon! They gotta take out the guy who's the demon. The person who manages to kill the demon become the demon in the next round. Not sure how to work that out for MP yet, but it'll work somehow.

I think I'll call the mod "Serial Killer". Serial Killer for Pain Killer, lol. Could call it "Morphine" or something like that though :D

I'm going on vacation in about an hour, got no time to post screenies yet. Will post my PK screenies when I get back (05:00 Tuesday 25th May)

  • 3 weeks later...

I gots a save file if anyone wants it.....I haven't fully completed the game yet though. I need to kill Lucifer (the end boss). I can figure out how to kill him, I keep shooting and shooting him (you can only shoot him in Demon Morph mode) but it makes no difference, he won't die. Unless I gotsta keep shoting him but I was like shooting hime and shooting for half and hour and nothing happened....

Can't wait 'til those PK mod tools come out!!

Oh right. I might go give that a try. Lemme guess though, it takes helluva lot of rocks in his face before he dies? I got most of the Tarot cards too, I'm going back back the levels again, seeing what the conditions are to unlock the cards. I can't find all the secret places on the the one where you need to find all secret places to unlock the cards.

Surprisingly, not really. You might have to morph three or four times, max, if I recall.

Rather disapointing, actually.

Aha, done it. Woah, that ending is wierd....I just killed Alastor a few missions back and there he is again!! So does Daniel Garner die? Last I saw, he was going on the rampage with the shotgun killing all the demons. Then the screen went black and an evil monk came on holding a scroll with the credits on....
