Well, I watched the videos, 3d person? AI looks they were borrowed from a mental hostpital, and the medics, oh how I loathe them.... Hell, they haven't even made a new graphics engine. What the ######ing blue hell is this ######? We've waited a damn long time for this turd?

I say shape up there UBI, and cut the crap!

Greetings fellow Ghosts!

Well, isn't this interesting. I was debating on what to say and I'm still not sure so this might seem confusing........

First off, do you think buddy waved his arm forward enough? I think I'd be a little sore after all that :)

I'll take gameplay over graphics anyday so I don't really agree with you guys trashing the graphics. A big new fancy engine doesn't do crap for me if the game blows. Remember, this is the x-box, not the PC so we haven't really "seen" the graphics.

About gameplay.........did anyone else notice that it's ######' Call Of Duty!?!?! Linear, scripted sequences, scripted voice telling me where to go, arcadey BS. I am shocked and disappointed. Pardon me but I though the GR franchise was about "tactical-squad-based-combat." Where are the tactics and where are the squads?!?!?!?!?!

On a positive, the wall falling over was cool, and the physics were allright.

What the hell is up with the idiotic green circle takin' up half the ######' screen for changing weapons?!?!!? IMO, that blows goats. Get that crap off my screen and put it in the corner where it belongs.

With regards to the view, ya it sucks, but remember that it's a new thing and of course they're going to want to show it off. We've been told that we'll have a fpw multiple times so relax.

The medic?!?!?! Need I say more about this dunghole decision.

All I can say is that I'm more excited about the release of Dynacomp than I am about this pile of crap!

Thanks again to the modders and keep up the good work. Looks like I'll be playing your stuff for a looonnnggg time.

Remember that we were watching a console version being played - so many things are different, like the 3rd person view, squad control interface, aiming, etc. Also the way it was being played (run and gun) is certainly not the way most people here would approach it.

Did you catch the motion camera in the cinematic cut at the end of the mission (not the CGI of the choppers copping it) - lets hope that makes it to the PC version

AFAIAC, the jury is very much out on this one. Let's be patient and wait for the PC demo.

Havign watched the video a couple of times ( ), I thought I'd throw my tuppence into the mix, pointing out what I see/infer as happening, both good and bad.

Good:

- The graphics. Not a popular choice judging by the rabid responses from some people here. However, remember that it is merely an uprated GR1 engine (itself an uprated Rogue Spear engine), designed to run on a particularly average PC. As far as I remember there was an interview some time ago with someone from RSE saying that their games are designed to run on an average PC, not the uber-PCs that most modern graphics engines are doing. So, with the X-Box being a definition of a mid-range PC (sorta, if you roll your eyes and squint hard), the graphics look quite nice. I like the new and improved character models, as well as weapons, maps, etc.

- The hand signals. It's nice to be able to see that you can give general orders without wondering how the Ghosts received them (I wondered if it was ESP or telepathy in the original GR). Also, I infer that without the command map up, and the player orders and advance, the squad moves to an area where the reticule was pointing when the order was given, though there does seem to be slightly more to it (the RvS-style Windrose that occured when the Ghosts attacked the machine guns pinning down the SAS).

- The destructable scenery. This seems like it could only be for scripted points (as stated earlier), but it's nicely impressive when it does happen. I hope it's expanded in other maps.

- The audio cues. In many ways I infer that they are in place as a sort of audio reminder to the player of their objectives, though it does seem a bit linear in action.

- The voices/chatter. The brilliantly comedy SAS accents aside (where do they get the voice actors? ), I like the way there's a bit of banter between your squad mates. Also, is my hearing bad, or did I hear our new female specialist at various points? There were a few moments when I felt like I was being led by the hand (well, not me, whoever was playing) by the Ghosts. I also inferred from the Ghosts that you may play their Captain (i.e. the ODA commander), so the focus is on you to build up your character (possibly).

- The weapons. It seems our 'will the M8 or the M4 be in GR2?' question has been answered. In many ways I'm excited by this, but also apprehensive. It could be all bad, but I trust in the modders to create the stuff we don't have  .

Also, this weapons pick up idea (I'm sure it's there) could at last mean we don't have to worry about our foolish demo guy getting shot and thus failing a mission by default.

Bad:

- The run-and-gun style. Not a big fan of this. I preferred my sneak in close and kill the buggers, or snipe from a distance. It's enjoyable in some respects, but is it Ghost Recon? Time will tell if this is just a style employed for that misison, or concurrent throughout the SP campaign.

- The Kits. It's not the kits per se (I like the fact that everyone has 4 slots to fill), but the fact that every Ghost had AT weaponary. I thought it was only an option for Demo guys. Please keep it that way (especially for MP play).

- The AI. It could just be the demo (as it says, it is only 70% complete), but the AI had not exactly made leaps and bounds from GR1. It seems like they haven't even made a progression at all (the Ghost running right past an active enemy was just annoying - seen in the bit where you have to destroy the 2 jets, near the end). Enemy AI wasn't too steller either. They didn't seem to really appreciate cover or move to better positions.

Undecided:

- This new medic thing. Could be interesting, after all, a graze shouldn't kill you or lead to you getting a man out of commission for the rest of the fight. However, for the love of God, make sure they don't instantly heal you, in a Delta Force/Enemy Territory style.

- The new view. Granted, it's an option, and so I could stay with the current GR1 view if I chose to. However, I think I may give this one a try, since it seems quite nice, though the camera could be annoying. I'll give it a go though (I can hear the rabid purists sobbing quietly all ready ;) ).

Anyway, just my tuppence. It could all be moot, since we're only watching a 70% complete version anyway.

Boy, some people are getting really het up about this... I don't get it.

I don't know what people think RSE owes them. I mean, this is their franchise - it's up to them the direction in which they want to take it. The way the games industry works is... if you don't like a game... don't buy it. No offence or anything, but it's time to get off your high horse and accept that.

Edit - The above post isn't directed at anyone in particular... just my reaction to the general sentiment of some people.

Go Pyro  . I'm with you on this one. I think it's nice that RSE have taken some of the feedback on board and responded to it, whilst moving in their own direction. Whilst it may not be everyone's cup of tea, I think it'll be interesting to see what happens. People will ###### and moan about nearly every game that ever was and ever will be, but those that like it; like it. Those that don't; well, there's always something else for them.

Not a flame, or a comment to stoke the fire, just a fact.

Tim

Edit: Blimey, didn't realise the filter was so intense.

The reason people get angry is because technically UBI/RSE does owe us....we are the group who made thier games popular...without PC gamers where would the company be right now? Why "abandon" the people who "made" the franchise(s)?

Knowing that the video wasn't even the BETA game, I was impressed. Despite what the naysayers have said, I saw enough similarities to recognize that it was Ghost Recon. I liked the transition to- and from scoped view. I think that when we see the PC version, it will be alot better. Remember, the XBOX only has 64 megs of RAM, and is completely subpar compared to PC's now. Also, for those of you who either weren't around, or don't remember, we heard alot of whining when we first saw screens from GR. "The graphics are behind the times, etc." I say, give the guys from RSE a chance. And if you don't like the way the game looks, don't buy it. :)

Sod it! I'll just buy it when it comes out.....

It should be ok I guess....I think we have to lower our expectations a little!

"Ghost Recon" = "Original Star Wars Trilogy"

"Ghost Recon 2" = "New Star Wars Trilogy"

It is all a matter of taste you know.

I think "Full Spectrum Warrior" might be the game to beat this year in the realism department.

My dos cents.

If UBI/RSE owes its users anything is questionable. They provide a product, we buy it. That doesn't give either party any right to order the other around. By that token we ex-Amiga guys should ##### and moan because DiCE produces BF1942 for the PC and not Amiga, given we all bought their Pinball games back then...

If I don't like GR2 I'll go to another game, or gods forbid: stay with current GR. The one thing I get out of GR are cool people to play with, people who know how to work as a team and not run and gun (which is fun to do sometimes) only.

I don't feel like defending UBI/RSE, I just feel that your sense of entitlement is misplaced and not well founded. And as many have pointed out, this was an early Beta of an X-Box version of the game, it only shows that they're focusing on getting their X-box verions out first, which we all knew would happen.

Games Spot:

Ghost Recon 2 could very well be one of the best and most accessible tactical shooters on any platform

Accessible?

Do i need to say more?

I hope i can stay optimistic like jack does, but im getting a just a bit worried to bed now.

A point worth bearing in mind I suppose. Let's just hope they actually optimise the PC port as a seperate project in order to maximise the added capabilities and power. That was the issue that I was doubting.

Only time will tell...I suppose.

I thought this feature was pretty dope too. It is like the RVS squad based tactics(or whatever you call it). If you look up in the top left hand corner when he does his hand signals you can see what he is signaling. I saw icons that looked like they represented a straight advance, a three prong attack, there was a protect mode somewhere in there (I think it was when they met the SAS), there was a medic icon, and a few more. I need to watch it again to catch them all.

I think that Ubi/RSE has a lot of work ahead but there are some cool features at work in the demo movie that aren't readily apparent.

I'm kind of impressed.
