my girl was on my computer while i was out yesterday and this morning when i went to edit some .atr files the notepad .exe was gone! she says all she did was open internet explorer and looked at some sites but when it comes to computers she has a habbit of pushing any buttons that come her way. i have search the harddrive and i can't find the .exe file anywhere and when i clicked the notepad icon it gave me a handicap installer, so weird. if this has happened to anyone before i would love to hear how you fixed it. Is notepad free? i checked download.com but i couldn't find it.

i know that i did not include who made my computer and all the other info asked for in the pin because this seems like a gerneral prob but if neccasary i will post it.

Notepad comes by default with Windows

All we have to know is what version of Windows you use. XP? Me? 98?

Then you have two options that I know of:

1) Stick in your WinXP CD and boot from it, then use it to "repair" your WinXP installation

2) Easier than the above is to use WinXP's "rollback" feature to rollback to a date earlier than when you lost Notepad.

There is a risk of you crashing your system doing both the above, but it's minimal. I need to say the usual disclaimer that GR.net and I won't be responsible to anything bad that happens to your system.
