Matt03 0
Well it works but is it practical? You have to ask yourself do I want something that looks wrong when I can get to the same place with something that looks normal.
BornToKill 0
To climb it you walk up it, best done using the shuffle key, works better that way. I admit it looks a little strange if you stand around on it, "Look Mom no Hands". It is not advisable to climb it in the crouched or prone positions tho as you tend to get stuck and have to come back down, sometimes this can lead to you falling off, But as in real life if you ###### about on ladders then you can expect to get hurt!! If you walk up or down it then then are no probs. Cool thing about it tho is it offers Stealth entry to buildings, scalable cliffs etc.Am working on a map where you climb up a netting draped on a cliff face as one possible route. sleeper 0
Ive done the walk up ladder myself. It works fine, just looks a little funny. I suggest you ease up with the .gif use though, .jpegs saved at max settings from photoshop work a whole lot better and there is (relatively)little quality loss from .bmps. Im waiting 4 or 5 seconds and Ive got cable, thats going to mean quite a wait for someone on dialup. Just a thought.

BornToKill 0
Ye rgr that sleeper, didn't know the forum would except jpg's, tried a bmp and it told me incorrect file type use www.domain.blahblah.gif as correct format. Will try as jpg's. Basically a ladder is just a vertical floor polygon. but you have to remove the floor polygon behind it otherwise you walk straight through it. Tip create the floor poly at a slight angle and make it non- rendered, then put your ladder texture slightly in front say 10-20 cm, this helps give the appearence of standing on the rungs. This one is a little more complicated as you cant climb it until you have pulled the ladder down. This is done by creating 2 non-rendered/non 3d collidable boxes to act as 2d collisions top and bottom(prevents you climbing the ladder.Tagged as <n><dyn><boxes> Then a rendered box is placed where the rope is and tagged <n><door>rope and applied a pure alpha channel( so its invisible, rsb tagged as nade/bullet tranparent).Doors have to be 3d collidable (polygon) otherwise they dont work hence the "invisible texture applied" The bottom of the ladder is tagged as <n><dyn><ladder>. The 2 <dyn> objects are group into the <door> and the group is animated. SO you walk upto the rope, hitting x opens the door and it animates by sliding down, the 2d collision boxes slide down with the animations allowing you access to climb it. sleeper 0
Nice job of using some creative thinking there. Ive been trying to incorporate some new ideas similar in process to your ladder. There are quite a few things like this that havent yet been done in maps before. I didnt at first realized what all you had going on with your ladder. Any ladders that I have made didnt involve anything close to what youve done. Nice work.
